The valve cover is responsible for sealing the internal workings of the engines' top end. Most vehicles require a replacement gasket at some point or another and newer models have plastic valve covers that get brittle and crack with age.

This is the seal located underneath the valve securing bolts. We recommend replacing these any time the valve cover has to be removed in order to ensure a proper oil-tight seal.
Keep oil in and abrasives out with a fresh valve cover gasket set. Replace heat-hardened, cracked gasket material and eliminate unsightly and potentially dangerous oil leaks. This kit contains everything you need to properly reseal the valve cover.

If there is a large amount of oil on the sides of the engine or if you can smell burning oil, chances are it's a bad valve cover gasket. The gasket fails and allows oil to seep down onto the side of the engine and other parts causing a mess and reducing the amount of oil in your engine.
