This new thermostat triggers oil flow a significant 72 degrees Fahrenheit earlier than the factory version. This early flow translates into prolonged lower oil temperatures for both the oil cooler and engine, maintaining a happier, healthier engine with consistently lower operating temperatures.

If your M50, M52, or M54 engine takes a few seconds to build oil pressure after sitting, there's a good chance that your factory oil filter housing drain back valve has failed. Over time, the factory plastic check valve degrades, allowing oil to drain completely out of the housing and back into the oil pan while sitting. Every cold start essentially becomes a dry start, resulting in a loud ticking noise and causing unnecessary wear on your engine's internals.

The oil filter pedestal, often prone to failure due to its plastic construction, can be a source of oil leaks in your BMW engine. Exposure to flowing engine oil and heat over time can lead to cracks in this critical component, resulting in oil leakage down the side of the engine block.
