The particular configuration of the gears and their spatial fixturing allows an axial increase in shaft speed from the input to the output of the unit. The N54/early n55 high-pressure pump is a very capable and over-engineered piece of hardware. They do a good job supplying fuel at high pressures at stock power levels. As we start tuning and pushing more power, we start seeing drops in the high pressure. What is happening here is that the high-pressure pump is not able pump as much fuel as the injectors are injecting into the cylinders and hence causing the rail pressures to drop. The pump at this point is running out of displacement volume. With a rotary pump like the continental HPFP, an easier way to increase displacement is to spin the pump faster which results in an increased number of delivery strokes per cycle. The Helix helps you do exactly this and thus helps overcome a big limitation in N54/early N55 fuel systems without the complexity of a secondary port injection system.

The filter unit on the continental rotary high pressure fuel pumps perform an important function of final stage filtering of fine particle impurities before it reaches the hpfp pump chamber or worse, the injectors leading to leaky injectors. The problem with them is that they are extremely tiny and restrictive and sometimes even rupture failing to filter at all. The issue becomes worse when running high-performance products like the Spool Helix overdrive system because now you have an increased flow requirement through this filter that it just cannot keep up.

+ International customers: Due to different emissions requirements, the top portion of your fuel bucket (top hat) is different and doesn't have a large vent tube connection. For this reason, we are no longer sending the top hat to international customers as this often causes confusion. Those customers will simply re-use their current top hat when installing their Stage 2 pump.

- All Stage 2 assemblies are stock buckets that have been rebuilt and may show signs of being disassembled and rebuilt. They are all flow tested and verified before being shipped.

As these cars get older we're seeing more issues with the stock components and more demand for cost-conscious fueling solutions. The new Fuel-It 650HP line of fuel system upgrades are designed with those needs in mind while maintaining a budget. They make the most of the stock components to maintain stock reliability and drive-ability but when the boost gets cranked up, the Fuel-it 650HP components kick in to support the additional fueling needs of your high horsepower car. With the Fuel-It 650HP lineup, you can upgrade your components all at one time or upgrade them as time and budget allows. If upgrading one component at a time, we'd recommend starting with the LPFP first as that is the heart of your fuel system, without a good Low Pressure Fuel pump (LPFP) you can't supply the fuel needed to any of your other components. Your secondary pump can NOT run full time, it must only be run under boost only. Running it full time will place additional strain on the stock system, will lead to high fuel temps, and pump or component failure. To turn the secondary pump on under boost we recommend running the included 4psi Hobb's switch. Flow Rates based on B58 stock CAM lift: Stock B58 Pump - 0.954 cc per rev FX-180 - 1.7 cc per rev Why do you need it? The stock HPFP on B58 motor is severely limited in capacity when trying to tune and raise the output of the motor. The FX-180 adds 80% more flow to the equation, raising the fueling limits on the platform and helping you run bigger turbos and/or higher ethanol concentration blends. Are tune changes required? The upgraded pump does require calibration changes. It is important to apply these changes prior to starting the car with pump installed to avoid any possible damage and void of warranty. Spool Performance can provide calibration details to your existing tuner and/or help you connect with established tuners who are experienced with these pumps. Custom tuning is required to get maximum output out of the upgraded pump setup for your specific vehicle setup and ambient conditions. Spool Performance is a hardware manufacturer and does not provide custom tunes, but can assist with questions your tuner may have. Low Pressure Fuel Pump Upgrade: Proper low pressure fueling is extremely important for proper functioning and durability of the high pressure pumps and injectors in a DI system. Inadequate low pressure fueling can cause damage to the pump piston and bore as they are lubricated by controlled leakage of fuel. Resulting damage from low pressure starvation is detectable and would be cause for voided warranties. Please make sure you plan out your fuel system build with proper low pressure upgrades when necessary. NOTE: NOT COMPATIBLE WITH B58TU ENGINE
