This plastic pan will experience numerous drastic heat cycles over its lifetime, causing it to become weak and brittle, leading to potential catastrophic failure. Automatic transmissions are reliable, shift smoothly, and can last without issue so long as they are properly maintained. Over time, the transmission fluid becomes thick and the filter becomes contaminated with small metal particles. This can cause excess wear, high transmission operating temperatures, and eventual failure. To prevent this we recommend changing your filter, fluid, and seals to ensure your transmission continues to operate flawlessly. We recommend filter and fluid changes every 50,000 miles.

BMW claims their transmission fluid to be a "lifetime" fluid, however is recommended to be changed every 60,000 miles to ensure a longer transmission life. Though not exposed to the same level of heat and contamination as engine oil, transmission oil still breaks down over time due to heat and becomes contaminated as your transmission wears. Old contaminated oil can lead to excessive wear and tear on sensitive transmission components which could lead to slow shifting, slips, and even complete failure. This is also true for the transmission filter integrated into the transmission fluid pan. The filter removes metal particles from the transmission fluid and eventually begins to clog, preventing fluid from passing through the filter easily. VTT now offers the ONLY easy-to-install, plug-and-play xDrive controller on the market. This device will allow you to turn off and on your xDrive capability from the driver's seat with a remote. While other options do exist such as X-Delete, or an in-dash gauge, one is a very slow process and is not viable to use as a way to do a burnout at the drag strip, and the other is a very expensive, AND very intrusive device that requires removal of most of the dash, and installing a gauge. VTT's solution takes 30 seconds to install once you gain access to the underside of the vehicle, and can be removed just as easily.
