The factory dual-mass flywheel in W11-powered MINI Coopers was designed with comfort in mind—minimizing drivetrain vibration and delivering smoother shifts. However, this focus on refinement comes at a performance cost. The hefty 27 lbs. of rotational mass dulls throttle response, slows acceleration, and makes rev-matching more difficult. Dual-mass flywheels are also known to be less reliable in tuned or modified setups and can be expensive to replace when they fail.
ECS Tuning developed their Lightweight Single-Mass Flywheel to address these issues with a performance-focused alternative. **This flywheel is to match with a factory type or aftermarket NON Dampened clutch kit!** MINIs factory set up engagement is dampened by the dual mass flywheel.
