The cooling system is arguably the weakest point in numerous BMWs. If you drive an aging BMW or plan on taking your car to the track like we do, we recommend beefing up your cooling system before going to the track. Generally, the main components in your cooling system that are prone to failure include the following: expansion tank, factory hoses, water pump, thermostat, fan (especially if your vehicle comes factory with a clutch fan), and radiator. Factory BMW expansion tanks are plastic and prone to either breaking off at connection points or combusting. As factory rubber hoses age they either crack or break over time - we offer silicone cooling hose upgrades for most applications to avoid future failures. If you have an older vehicle, your water pump likely comes from the factory with a plastic impeller - we offer upgraded water pumps with metal impellers that are far more reliable. Newer model BMWs utilize electric water pumps - BMW spent millions of dollars engineering these water pumps, but they fail so often that we recommend replacing at 60,000 mile service intervals to avoid being stranded on the side of the road. In terms of thermostats, we offer various upgraded thermostats for racing applications. If your BMW utilizes a clutch fan from the factory, we have several options available in terms of universal electric fans - we recommend replacing these to avoid sending brittle plastic fan blades through your hood. For radiators, we recommend swapping out your radiator for one that does not use plastic connection points like your factory radiator.

This is a compete cooling system overhaul kit, which includes all of the common Z3 M52 cooling system failure parts bundled into a complete package. This cooling system package is for the 1997-1998 Z3 2.8 Roadster and 1998-2000 MZ3 M Roadster or M Coupe.

The Z3 cooling system's primary cooling components are prone to failure within 60k miles (or less in many cases). A failure in the cooling system can lead to overheating and catastrophic engine failure. Don't gamble your engine! By replacing these core items preventatively, such as the radiator & waterpump, you are defusing what could be a ticking cooling system time bomb. And if you've had a failure of one of these parts, now is the time to refresh your cooling system. Our kit includes one OEM Behr radiator, an Original BMW waterpump (with updated composite impeller and O-ring), thermostat (complete with O-ring), aluminum thermostat housing, profile gasket, radiator cap and new hoses (as pictured).

Optional items (which can be added below):
- Upgrade the waterpump to a Stewart/EMP High Performance pump
- Original BMW antifreeze
- Add a new coolant expansion tank (known for cracking)

Just like the rest of your vehicle's major systems, the cooling system must also be addressed periodically to ensure proper cooling and component reliability. Plastic and rubber components become brittle and prone to splitting or cracking after long periods of heating and cooling cycles, especially in colder climates! The coolant itself can degrade or become contaminated, leading to potential corrosion or freezing issues. Finally, thermostats and sensors can fail completely, preventing proper cooling and/or coolant temperature readings to become inaccurate.

To make sure you are not left stranded on the side of the road with an overheated engine, we have put together this Basic Cooling System Service kit. This kit contains all of the most-likely-to-fail components, giving you peace of mind knowing your engine will continue to run cool for another 60,000+ miles.

See kit contents below for all included components.

Most of the pulleys on your BMW engine are plastic, which become brittle and frail over time and from engine bay heat. A failed pulley could leave you stranded which is why it is vital to inspect the pulleys during routine maintenance. This is an aluminum version of the stock water pump pulley used on the M50/M52/M52TU/M54 engine in the E36, E46, Z3, Z4, and other models. It uses the same hardware and the original belt as the stock plastic pulley. But the aluminum will last much longer.

Every hero has its Achilles heel, and for many BMWs, it's the cooling system. Featuring an overabundance of brittle, crack-prone, leak-inducing plastic, the otherwise robust drivetrain is let down by a weak cooling system. Now, ECS has come to the rescue with a solution to cure those problems once and for all and leave the days of cracked plastic end tanks and coolant-stained driveways far behind. This radiator was designed with performance, durability, and good looks in mind to create a great all-around upgrade for any E36 owner, from the daily driver to the weekend warrior. Featuring fully aluminum construction, all the joints are precision TIG-welded for superior durability and show-car looks, with polished end tanks further adding to the great look of this radiator. The easily-stripped plastic drain plug and fan switch holes have been replaced with threaded alloy bungs in the stock locations, and the weak plastic tabs for the factory fan shroud have been replaced with beefy aluminum as well. Designed as a drop-in solution, this radiator will fit like a stock replacement, but will look and perform far better, while costing substantially less than the competition. What are you waiting for? Upgrade your cooling system today and leave your worries behind - and look great doing it - with this ECS Tuning Performance Aluminum Radiator. Note: Owners of automatic E36s utilizing a stock-style transmission cooler must drill two small holes in the lower frame of the radiator.
