E31, E36, Z3 Crash Alarm Relay
This is a new BMW Crash Alarm Relay. In the event of an impact this relay automatically turns on your hazard lights, cuts fuel delivery, and enables the airbags. But they are known to fail just like any other relay and that can cause problems. Telltale signs that this has gone bad is your hazard lights will flash every time you turn the car on (pressing the button will stop them), the hazard lights will turn on while driving, the airbag/SRS light will be on in the dash, the alarm might activate on its own, and possibly other symptoms. If you have any of those issues this could be the culprit. Replacement is easy and the crash alarm relay is located either in the engine compartment with the other relays or under the steering column.
