The heat exchanger is effectively a radiator for your factory water-cooled intercooler, which is located inside the intake manifold. Coolant is circulated between the intake manifold intercooler and heat exchanger, keeping the intercooler cool to help reduce intake air temps. The cooler, denser air helps with ignition, fueling, prevents timing pull, and helps to create more power.

This performance heat exchanger from CTS features a number of upgrades over the stock intercooler, offering better reliability and cooling performance. The first major upgrade is the heat exchanger's full alumnimum constructions. The factory heat exchange is partially constructed from plastic, which is prone to damage and cracks as the plastic becomes brittle over time. Full aluminum construction results in a stronger intercooler, which will last the lifetime of your BMW. The second major upgrade is a redesign of the coolant flow path and fin layout. This redesign allows for higher cooling efficiency, resulting in greater heat dissipation and reduced coolant temperatures.

**Vehicles with automatic transmissions will not use the lower rock guard. A small spacer is included to install the transmission cooler on the left side of the vehicle. Use factory screws to secure the transmission cooler.
