Under increased boost scenarios or spirited driving, the factory charge piping engineered by BMW starts to show its limitations. Designed to be inexpensive, lightweight, and compact it is made out of plastic and rated for stock boost pressure and power levels. Adding an exhaust, tune, or increasing boost will cause issues in making consistent power. Under extreme cases, plastic charge piping will become detached under heavy load, causing terrible misfiring.
By changing from factory plastic charge piping to hard aluminum charge piping, reliability is greatly increased. Additionally, the engine is allowed to hold higher and more stable boost levels since the piping does not flex or distort. Increased strength at connection points is also assured as heavy duty clamps with hard piping doesn't rattle loose or loose clamping force due to spirited driving.
