APEX Forged wheels are the next evolution in forged wheel technology for BMWs. Simply because a wheel is forged does not guarantee that it’s stronger than a cast or flow-formed wheel. Forging is a manufacturing process, not a measure of strength. APEX's new EC-7R is a significant step forward. Now lighter and stronger than the original flow formed version thanks to "I" beam spokes and forged manufacturing. It’s enhanced with the features and benefits you’ve been waiting for.
APEX was committed to a meaningful step up in strength when they designed their entire line of forged wheels, so they increased load ratings significantly. 18” and 19” BMW wheels went up by 250 pounds per wheel. That’s 1,000 pounds more capacity per car to better handle cornering abuse from downforce, sticky tires, and heavier chassis.
Significant material was removed from the side of each spoke on the EC-7R to give it "I" beam-like strength. Many wheels have webbing between spokes that create the illusion of side milling. APEX took material off the side to save weight and didn’t add weight just for aesthetics. Additionally, the flow formed EC-7R featured APEX's first barrel design with Brembo 380mm clearance behind 18” wheels which is carried forward to the new Forged version. Typical blank forgings can have poor brake clearance profiles. By developing its own new profiles and new dies, APEX wheels can clear Brembo 380mm kits behind 18” wheels and 400mm carbon ceramics behind 19" wheels. This is done by optimizing the barrel profiles to suit the particular vehicle and caliper shape the wheels are intended for. APEX also conducted extensive Finite Element Analysis to reinforce high-stress areas and to remove material where it didn’t improve strength. The end result is a fully forged wheel with an ideal balance of strength and weight.
All APEX wheels are the BMW standard 5/120 bolt pattern and with a 72.6mm center bore. They are a direct fit to most any 1-series (E82), 3-series (E36, E46, E90, E92, F30), Z3, and Z4-series BMWs. The original BMW center cap, TPMS sensors, and original lug bolts are all carried over from your original wheels (wheel bolts may vary if spacers are used). They come in a wide variety of diameter, width, and offset combinations which gives you multiple fitment and application opportunities. For street use, we generally recommend a staggered setup with a rear wheel slightly wider than the front. For track and racing applications a square setup is desired with the same width in the front and rear. Wheel offsets may also vary based on the clearances and stance you wish to achieve. Note: careful consideration of wheel width, offset and tire sizing must be observed when choosing and installing larger wheels. Adding larger wheels may lead to rubbing on suspension components or bodywork. Wheel spacers, new alignment settings, inside fender modifications, or other adjustments may be required.
