The ball-joint inside the link will eventually wear out. The problem gets worse if the rubber boot surrounding the joint is ripped. When the joint goes bad you can hear it clunk when going over bumps. Replacement of the link will help with the handling and feel of the car.

Use this tool to separate control arm ball-joints and larger tie-rod end joints. This tool is particularly beneficial when dealing with tight locations that prevent the use of non-scissor separator tools. Note that max jaw opening is 1 3/4".
