BMW Brake Cooling Ducts & Backing Plates for BMW E36 (1992-1998) M3

Plan on tracking your car? Going to be using real track/race pads? You're going to need brake cooling ducts and hose. Brakes create lots of heat and temps can rise to damaging levels. Excessive heat will burn up caliper seals and dust boots, boil brake fluid, lead to rapid pad wear, inconsistent pedal feel, damage rubber boots on suspension ball joints, and other problems. Racing brake pads are designed to work in very specific temperature ranges so to prevent them from exceeding those temps race teams rely on brake cooling ducts, silicone hose, and bumper ducts.

We have designed and produced advanced brake backing plates that fit behind the wheel bearing hub. The backing plates have an inlet duct that directs air to the center of the hub/rotor. From there, cooling vanes in the rotor draw the air through the rotor to cool it. By keeping the rotor cool it won't transfer as much heat through the pads, caliper, and rest of the braking system. Our kits are designed to fit to the hub without having to remove the hub/bearing.

In the specific case of BMW, the team at AAF has a particular affinity for building and designing components for BMW race cars. These Backing Plates by Advanced Auto Fabrication feature a large “Pocket” to allow for more efficient air flow into the brake hat. This allows air to travel through the vents in the rotor. AAF's Backing Plate is the full size of the rotor and is a heat shield for the shocks and ball joints. Heating of your shock oil causes oil thinning, which changes the shock dampening characteristics. Protecting your ball joints from heat will improve longevity and prevent premature wear. The backing plates are powder coated black for extra durability and attractive aesthetics. They replace the OEM dust shields, and will need to be removed before installation.

AAF's brake duct adapters slide directly over the OEM E36 brake duct inlets. They suggest using a strong 2 part bonding adhesive to attach the duct adapters to the OEM brake duct inlet. With the AAF Brake Duct Kit, you do not need any fasteners or glue to hold these in place. This is ideal for maximum airflow, as it does not intrude into the air duct, and will create an air-tight seal around the joint. These are the perfect answer for your brake duct kit.
