Looking to free up horsepower and upgrade your cooling? Then this Electric Fan Conversion kit is the perfect choice! The fan and clutch that connect to the water pump add additional rotating mass to the drive line. By removing them and converting your system to an electric fan, the engine has to do less work, giving you that extra little bit of power. In this kit we include a lower temperature thermostat, coolant additive, and low temperature fan switch that engages the electric fan at a lower temperature, keeping your engine cool and lowering the drag and unneeded weight from the front end of your BMW.
Included in this kit:
Fits the following BMWs:
09/1995-1999 E36 BMW 323is/ic 328i/is/ic M3
Just like the rest of your vehicle's major systems, the cooling system must also be addressed periodically to ensure proper cooling and component reliability. Plastic and rubber components become brittle and prone to splitting or cracking after long periods of heating and cooling cycles, especially in colder climates! The coolant itself can degrade or become contaminated, leading to potential corrosion or freezing issues. Finally, thermostats and sensors can fail completely, preventing proper cooling and/or coolant temperature readings to become inaccurate.
To make sure you are not left stranded on the side of the road with an overheated engine, we have put together this Basic Cooling System Service kit. This kit contains all of the most-likely-to-fail components, giving you peace of mind knowing your engine will continue to run cool for another 60,000+ miles.
See kit contents below for all included components.
![]() | Top Turner Tip! The very earliest E36s had infamous cooling system failures. But those are a thing of the past! We've got the best combination of parts to ensure a bulletproof E36 cooling system and it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. Our basic cooling package (OEM radiator and OE BMW water pump with composite impeller) is much better quality than what was available 20 years ago. And we can upgrade the system with full aluminum radiators, silicone hoses, and a stronger water pump. There are no more excuses for a weak E36 cooling system. |
BMW vehicles are known for their robust performance, but the water pump is a notorious weak spot, often needing replacement every 60,000 miles.
During this service, it's wise to also swap out the thermostat to maintain the efficiency of your vehicle's cooling system. Turner Motorsport simplifies this process with our expertly curated Water Pump & Thermostat Replacement Kit.
This premium kit centers around the renowned EMP Stewart high-performance water pump--a favorite among BMW enthusiasts for its exceptional design. Featuring a stainless steel impeller, this pump enhances coolant flow by 20%. Complementing this is a low-temperature 68°C (154.4°F) Mishimoto thermostat, an upgraded aluminum thermostat housing, and Redline Water Wetter coolant additive. Together, these components make for the ultimate cooling system upgrade for your E36, E39, or Z3!

Looking to improve your cooling system's performance and add some peace of mind at the same time? Look no further. This kit includes everything you need to add performance, durability and longevity to your cooling system without spending a ton of money. Best of all, the upgrade can be performed by a reasonably competent DIY enthusiast in an afternoon. The team at ECS Tuning supplies their excellent silicone radiator hoses, stainless hose clamps, and aluminum coolant bleed screw for increased durability and heat resistance. Meanwhile, a lower pressure expansion tank cap makes for a less costly "weak link" if the system builds too much pressure, potentially saving you from a costly radiator replacement that could leave you stranded. The kit also includes a gallon of Genuine BMW coolant along with 12 ounces of Red Line Water Wetter, which lowers operating temperatures and protects your cooling system from internal corrosion. All you need is this kit, a few hours of free time, and a gallon of distilled water to keep your E36 cool & running at its best!

Replace the flimsy plastic bleeder screw used in the coolant expansion tank or in one of the cooling system hoses with this high quality, durable, aluminum bleeder screw. The stock plastic screw can deform over time due to heat or even regular use. We have even seen the head of the screw snap off, leaving the threaded body stuck in the expansion tank. This aluminum screw will help to prevent sudden failure of the bleeder screw, which can result in immediate overheating of the car.
ECS Tuning's Aluminum Coolant Bleeder Screw replaces Genuine BMW Part Number 17111712788
Unlike factory rubber hoses, silicone can withstand higher temperatures and pressures with minimal wear. Rubber will wear out and weaken so don't let it bite you when it counts! Silicone has been proven during extreme racing conditions and won't be the weak link that ruins your day.
This E36 ECS silicone hose set replaces two hoses -
11531708499, upper radiator hose
11531726344, lower radiator hose
The thermostat regulates the temperature of your coolant. At a predetermined temperature the thermostat will open to let coolant flow to the radiator and be cooled by airflow or the fan. Over time the thermostat will become stuck open or closed, leading to a variety of issues. A closed thermostat will never allow the coolant to reach the radiator and be cooled. Hot coolant will continue to circulate through the engine and absorb even more heat until boiling and the system overheats. An open thermostat is not as bad but is still not ideal - the coolant is always cool, with the temp needle always reading in the cool range. This tells the ECU to richen the fuel mixture to bring the car up to normal operating temp. So your fuel mileage decreases and the car runs rich.
Replacing the thermostat is an easy but messy job. This thermostat includes the main o-ring (but a housing gasket may be required). Consider replacing the housing and any associated temp sensors while you're in there. The cooling system will need to be bled after.
Most of the engines from the mid-1980s through the 1990s use the same thermostat design and they are interchangeable among the different temperatures. This is the 88* thermostat, towards the top of the range. However, keep in mind that BMW spent a lot of time engineering the cooling system to work in all kinds of conditions and changing thermostat temperature is not recommended to fix any failures in the cooling system.

Mishimoto E36 Aluminum Radiator features -
Mishimoto radiators address all of the defects of the stock E36 radiator in a well-engineered and price-competitive direct replacement unit. The Mishimoto radiator is an all aluminum design that replaces the factory plastic and aluminum stock radiator. The stock plastic end tanks are notorious for cracking and leaks whereas the Mishimoto has aluminum end tanks that will never fail. Mishimoto can also build 30% more coolant capacity into the a radiator that fits in the original location with no modifications. More coolant volume means the fluid is not heat soaked for as long (less super heated fluid circulating through the engine). For a direct replacement performance radiator, the Mishimoto is hard to beat!
Mishimoto was established in 2003 as a supplier of cooling components for drift and rally cars. Their radiators and intercoolers soon found a strong following in the hyper competitive drift scene where high horsepower and prolonged high revs dictate the need for durable and robust cooling solutions. The catchy Mishimoto name is a combination of the name of the founder's family pet - Mishi - and "moto". All products are designed and tested in the USA using state-of-the-art CAD tools and prototyping and with continuous evolution of product design. Mishimoto is so dedicated to quality that they offer a limited lifetime warranty and accident forgiveness.
