The factory plastic gears in BMW S65 and S85 throttle body actuators are notorious for premature wear due to mechanical stress, engine vibration, and heat cycling. This secondary air pump helps to reduce emissions by mixing fresh air with the exhaust. When this part fails cause a engine fault code and it will trigger a "service engine soon" light.
