Red Line 70W/80W GL-4 MTL gear oil (SAE 5W30/10W30 engine oil viscosity) designed for use in BMW manual transmissions. Red Line 75W90 is a full synthetic high-performance gear oil that is an excellent substitute for expensive factory fluid and an upgrade over off-the-shelf economy fluid. Red Line thoroughly evaluates the manufacturer's recommendations and only makes a fluid recommendation if their own product meets or exceeds the original specification. In many cases the Red Line synthetic will outperform the factory supplied fluids. We've been using Red Line Oil in our BMWs since we opened in 1994 and it remains our best selling BMW differential fluid. 75/90 is the weight most commonly used in BMW differentials since the 1960s, including the factory clutch-type limited-slip diffs (exceptions being M3/M5/M6 cars since 2001). We use 75W90 in nearly all BMW chassis and the custom differentials that we sell. It's great for the street where the polyol-ester base has natural lubricity and friction modifiers lead to smoother and quieter operation with lower operating temps than the factory fluid. We also use it in some track cars that don't already use the more aggressive 75/90NS fluid (without friction modifiers).

Recommended or exceeds specifications for API GL-5, GL-6, MT-1, MIL-L-2105E, SAE J2360, and Chrysler spec MS-9763. Matches the specifications for the factory BMW SAF-XO diff fluid (#07512293972).

RED LINE MT-90 is designed to provide excellent protection and improved shiftability for manual transmissions and transaxles. MTL and MT-90 have cured the problem of hard shifting in numerous transmissions which have notoriously difficult shifting. The secret to their success is two-fold. First, they have the appropriate coefficient of friction for most manual transmission synchronizers. Many gear oils, engine oils, and ATFs are too slippery for proper synchro engagement. Secondly, the viscosity characteristics of MTL and MT-90 allow proper shifting over the entire temperature range which the transmission will experience. The synthetic base oils used have a very high viscosity index which provides relatively constant viscosity as temperature changes. MTL is a low 75W, almost a 70W, at very low temperatures and a high 80W, nearly an 85W, at elevated temperatures, providing adequate viscosity to prevent wear and deaden gear noise. MT-90 is a thicker 75W90 version of MTL. The shear stability and oxidation stability of these products are excellent, thus the physical characteristics of Red Line MTL and MT-90 will change little with use.

Over time, this fluid becomes contaminated by particulate from clutch and gear components wearing down. This contamination reduces the fluid's ability to act as a lubricant, eventually leading to increased wear and tear within the transmission. To prevent excess wear and keep your transmission in top shape, the fluid and filter should be replaced regularly. As per ZF's recommendations, we suggest performing a full service on your 8HP automatic transmission every 50,000 miles. If your vehicle has been modified to produce more power than stock or if it is regularly track-driven, we recommend shorter 30,000-mile service intervals. This will ensure your transmission's fluid is free from contamination, which will help extend the life of internal transmission components, such as clutch packs and solenoids.

A unique lubricant containing a suspension of solid microscopic particles as an extreme pressure agent--unique solid dispersion which cushions gear teeth to help prevent tooth breakage and allows the use of lower viscosities. Recommended for heavily-loaded racing differentials and transmissions, Off Road racing and problem gearboxes. The viscosity characteristics allow the lubricant to resist throwoff and provide a film thickness similar to a 75W250 grade, while providing the same low fluid friction as an SAE 75W90. BMW claims their transmission fluid to be a "lifetime" fluid, however is recommended to be changed every 60,000 miles to ensure a longer transmission life. Though not exposed to the same level of heat and contamination as engine oil, transmission oil still breaks down over time due to heat and becomes contaminated as your transmission wears. Old contaminated oil can lead to excessive wear and tear on sensitive transmission components which could lead to slow shifting, slips, and even complete failure. This is also true for the transmission filter integrated into the transmission fluid pan. The filter removes metal particles from the transmission fluid and eventually begins to clog, preventing fluid from passing through the filter easily. This leads to excessive wear and a reduced transmission lifespan if not changed. This high-quality Meyle transmission pan includes a new filter and is quintessential for a correct and full service.
