Since the F10 M5 was designed to make impressive power in stock form (and loads more with upgrades) these cars feature some heavy-duty cooling hardware. In order to keep oil temperatures down (something many late model M cars have struggled with) requires a large oil cooler. BMW engineers positioned the oil cooler quite low under the car, positioned horizontally - an aerodynamic design that creates a vacuum force while driving, drawing heat from the oil cooler. The issue some of the vehicle owners have experienced is road debris from small branches to chunks of ice that have impacted the OE belly pan hard enough to crack the oil cooler draining the car's oil rapidly. Being one of the lowest points of the car, even a close encounter with a parking block can mean the end of the road for the factory belly pan - and oil cooler. Damage to the belly pan means reduced cooling, which can result in dangerously high engine temperatures. Once the belly pan is damaged, there is no longer any protection for the oil cooler, meaning damage to the cooler and a catastrophic loss in oil pressure may be right around the corner.

Some models may also require removal of the bumper for easy installation. A tow strap is a better pickup point than a fixed steel ring, which will add weight and protrude past the bumper. Some racing series have banned the steel rings because they increase the likelihood of contact during close racing. Our straps are sold in bright red or black (red suggested for racing use as it makes it easy for tow truck operators and safety crews to spot). On some models, the strap may be tucked behind the bumper panel when not on track, which makes this perfect for dual-use track/street cars and full racecars alike. Priced per strap so order two for the front and rear. The 75mm bolt is commonly used with the M bumper designs and the 55mm bolt commonly used for the standard bumper due to the tow hook mounting thread distance behind the cover. The best practice is to measure the distance from the tow hook mounting threads to the outside of the bumper cover.

Ditch the boring and overstated factory chrome front grilles and get a darker and more aggressive look on your car. Only the M6 came with the double-slat grilles so these are a way to add some M6 flair to the standard 640/650 front end. These also replace the stock M6 grilles too to add some carbon fiber accents. These replacement grilles are made from ABS plastic with a carbon fiber weave on the exterior frame. Carbon fiber is replacing chrome and aluminum as the most desired decorative trim. Since it has its roots in aerospace and motorsports the look gives off the impression of cutting-edge technology and lightness. But our suppliers have improved the fit and finish of carbon�s inherently rough appearance. There are several quality grades to carbon fiber weave and we would put this right in the middle. It�s a good quality carbon weave without costing hundreds more like an Original BMW carbon part would. We inspect each grille for finish imperfections and quality issues so you�re getting only the ones we approve. If you want to complete the carbon fiber makeover on your car check out our other carbon grilles, emblems, trim, and spoilers. But please note that we source our carbon products from multiple suppliers and the carbon pattern will vary. Our grilles are sold in pairs � one for the left and one for the right. Installation is easy as they snap out and then snap back in.
