The engineers at Vargas saw and dealt with this problem time and again, and they saw fit to do something about it. This hub uses a proprietary "Spline Lock" technology that uses high tolerance machined splines which press into the crank, and positively lock the hub to the crank. The splines are machined in such a way that rotational forces drive the hub, and splines deeper into the crank meaning when the hub encounters a situation that would normally slip a stock hub the splined hub is driven into the crank to keep it in place (much like a splined extractor). BMW has a seemingly endless number of fans of the N54/N55/S55 engines, three straight-six turbo engines that are each capable of 750+ horsepower, but that doesn't mean they were without their faults! BMW's N54 had a notoriously rocky start with reliability due to multiple issues such as fuel injectors failing, turbos failing, serpentine belt failure, crank hubs coming loose, and more... BMW made multiple attempts to fix the issues plaguing the N54, but they could only do so much and the fixes rolled out seemed temporary at best. Following the N54, BMW released their updated N55 and S55 engines, giving many people hope that these engines would address the previous issues. Unfortunately, this was only some-what the case. Crank hubs and crank bolts continued to loosen over time and serpentine belts continued to shred themselves and get pulled into the oil pan through the front main seal. For all three engines, this meant a single failure could effectively turn your engine into an oversized paperweight. Luckily for us, the BMW community is full of skilled enthusiasts who have gladly taken up the task to offer solutions! The first headache to be addressed was the Crank Hub and Bolt. Using a simple plate that fits perfectly over your crank hub's hex-head bolt and mounts up against the damper, the crank bolt is effectively locked in place, preventing it from being able to back out until the plate is fully removed. Next up was the serpentine belt failures. It's not known what exactly causes the serpentine belt to split, but once it does, the pieces hanging off of the belt wrap around and behind the damper. This leads to the belt breaking up into smaller pieces and eventually getting pushed between the crank hub and rear main seal into the oil pan. These small pieces of debris get caught in and block the oil pickup, preventing oil flow and leading to engine failure. To prevent this, multiple aftermarket companies came up with their own versions of Crank Seal Plates. This plate is installed behind the front damper, blocking the opening that allows the serpentine belt to pass between the crank hub and seal, keeping debris out of your oil pan! Also included in this kit are the components to service your front Oil Cooler/Filter Housing gaskets, refresh your drive belt system, and install the aftermarket upgrades. BMW has a knack for maintaining its stake as the benchmark when it comes to performance luxury vehicles, with the F8X generation being no exception. The S55 that powers the 2015–2020 BMW F8X M3, M4, and M2 Competition is dripping with technology, which includes an air-to-water intercooling system as a means of keeping cool. Where BMW’s intercooling system design was enough to help bring this generation of mid-sized M’s to their peak, we here at Mishimoto found some weaknesses that we felt obliged to address, with a power bundle consisting of our full Performance Intercooler Product suite. The Mishimoto 2015–2020 BMW F8X M3/M4 Performance Intercooler Power Pack counters the weaknesses in BMW’s design, starting with the charge pipes. Cracking under pressure or splitting at the seams are common problems with factory plastic charge pipes. These can result in less than ideal situations as you pilot your M3 or M4. We created a brand-new design for the charge pipes that inspire more confidence in handling the boost pressure. Our design features a full aluminum construction with a cast midsection designed specifically to squeeze past the intake. Our charge pipe kit also includes a pair of matte black silicone couplers for a sleek and secure connection to the intercooler. The nondescript silver box is out, and the stylish new Mishimoto Performance Air-to-Water Intercooler is in. With a new look, our design fits perfectly in the M3 and M4’s engine bay, both in terms of installation and aesthetics. The beauty is more than just skin deep. Our improved core design features a bar-and-plate core with a 29% increase in core volume, as well as a unique single-pass coolant flow layout for optimal heat transfer. Combined with our 16% increase in flow through the core, we were able to record a 12°F temperature drop in intake air temperatures while testing our full Power Pack. An air-to-water intercooling system wouldn’t be complete without the heat exchanger. When it came to BMW’s design, it was a solid foundation, but we still saw room to grow, literally. Our full aluminum design added 6” to the height of the core, equating in a 180% increase in external fin surface area and a 60% increase in core volume. With our heat exchanger in the S55’s system, we recorded a 10°F drop in global intercooler coolant temperatures and an average gain of 11 whp and 8 wtq when the full Mishimoto 2015–2020 BMW F8X Performance Intercooler Power Pack was tested on our Stage 1 tuned M3. For added security, we made sure to include our optional steel mesh stone guard with the Mishimoto Performance Heat exchanger to keep all the tubes and fins intact. We also utilized a variable fin pitch on our heat exchanger’s core for optimal cooling on DCT-equipped vehicles. Even though the F8X generation of the M3, M4, and M2 Competition was designed to pull ahead of the rest, there's still much to be desired when it comes to cooling. It's no secret that BMW turbo motors can suffer from oil control problems causing oil to blow through and coat the intercooler and charge piping, gunking up intake valves and the VANOS system, lowering the effective octane, and generally degrading engine performance. The higher your boost levels the more apparent these problems become. The solution to this problem has finally arrived. The BMS oil catch can. While there are other catch cans on the market they all fall short in various areas. Some are mounted on the hot/turbo side of the motor preventing proper vapor condensation. Others utilize hoses that are too small and runs that are too long to allow proper PCV ventilation causing internal motor/ring sealing issues. Some have insufficient or no internal baffle system while others have internal baffles systems that are too restrictive. Some even bypass the PCV system all together venting crankcase gas and odor to the atmosphere. Most are simply repackaged oil catch cans from smaller / lower power motors shoehorned into place in the turbo BMW engine bay. To solve these problems BMS designed their oil catch can kit from the ground up specifically for the turbo BMW application. It features 100% CNC machining with zero welding for a precision fit and long life. The can itself is guaranteed for the life of the vehicle. The hoses exceed the OEM PCV piping in diameter and that flow rate is maintained throughout the entire oil catch can ensuring no excessive crankcase pressure buildup. The BMS OCC retains the factory fully closed loop PCV operation preventing any PCV vapor from leaking to the atmosphere. The mounting locations are selected to minimize the line length, allow more efficient operation, and retain a stealth look. Install takes around 20 minutes, includes all required hardware, and is 100% reversible. Simply unscrew the base of the can or use the drain plug to safely dispose of captured oil with the rest of your used motor oil during oil changes. Made in USA.
