BMW S55 Open Intake offers a substantial upgrade from the factory M3/M4 intake system, enhancing both performance and sound. Designed for BMW enthusiasts and car aficionados, this intake system provides improved airflow while seamlessly integrating with OEM inlet ducting and stock mounting locations. The intake features aluminum inlet pipes, which are more cost-effective compared to carbon fiber alternatives but still deliver excellent performance.

The S55's factory intake system is a major bottleneck, muting its aggressive twin-turbocharged soundtrack and restricting performance. Oversized airboxes, restrictive paper filters, and charcoal pre-filters choke airflow, limiting power and induction noise. The result? An underwhelming driving experience that doesn’t do the twin-turbo-six justice.
ECS aims to solve this issue with their Luft-Technik Performance Intake System—engineered to optimize airflow, amplify induction sound, and completely transform your engine bay. By replacing the factory restrictions with a high-flow design, this system unleashes the S55’s true potential, delivering sharper throttle response, enhanced turbo efficiency, and an intoxicating intake note.
At its core, the Luft-Technik intake is comprised of dual aluminum inlet tubes, designed for both strength and function. Constructed from 6061 aluminum and finished in a wrinkle black powder coat, these tubes are built to withstand high engine bay temperatures and extreme conditions. Using advanced CAD modeling, ECS engineers optimized the tubing shape to ensure perfect MAF sensor scaling, maintaining factory AFR (air-to-fuel ratio) for peak reliability and efficiency. The unique ovular profile maximizes clearance around critical engine components while allowing for the largest possible inlet diameter. The crossover tube features standoffs for secure heat exchanger hose mounting and a CNC-machined 6061-T6 billet aluminum MAF flange and vacuum port, ensuring seamless integration with factory connections.
To prevent heat soaking and maintain consistent performance, our intake system incorporates precision-cut aluminum heat shields. Finished in a durable wrinkle black powder coat, the heat shields feature a rubber edge trim that seals against the hood, preventing engine bay heat from infiltrating the air intake tract. This results in lower intake air temperatures (IATs), improved air density, and overall improved performance even under demanding conditions.
