This control arm upgrade was used on the high-performance 330i ZHP Performance Package and offered by BMW as a sport retrofit. These arms are identical dimensions as the regular arms so they are a direct replacement. But they have all metal ball joints instead of plastic or rubber. This means they last a lot longer and are much stronger. We used these in our Grand Am and World Challenge E46 racecars with excellent performance.

We also recommend replacing the bushings when changing the control arms. The bushings are mounted at the back of the control arm and located the arm to the frame rail on the car. The stock bushings are rubber and will wear out sooner than the control arms themselves. With the control arm off the car now is the perfect time to also replace the bushings.

This is the standard aluminum lower control arm used on the late-E34 and E32 models. It can be used as an upgrade for all E24, all E28, and other E34 models. The aluminum arms are a lot lighter than the standard steel arms on the early cars but the bushing and ball joint remains the same. The lighter part means better suspension and steering response because the suspension only has to move half the weight as before. The control arms literally control the wheel and suspension as they go through their range of motions. A faulty or worn control arm or ball joint is a very dangerous and potentially life-threatening problem so make sure they are inspected and replaced at regular intervals. This OEM Lemforder rear guide rod for the E38 7 series and E39 5 series chassis helps to control the toe alignment of the car (the horizontal in/out angle of the tire). There is a rubber bushing on the inside and a ball joint on the outside mounting point. When the bushings on the arm wear out they can contribute to a 'wandering' or 'loose' or unstable feeling in the rear. There may also be a clunking noise associated with bumps. This arm is just one part of the rear suspension, and other parts should be checked to confirm which one is causing the issues. Price is for each - order 2 to replace both on the car.
