NOTE: We suggest replacing 3 of BMW # 31126760203 during installation Kit comes supplied with M14 mounting bolt, thread locker, and a Powerflex keyring. With the newer F8x M2/M3/M4's making big power and having superb chassis straight from the showroom, it's no wonder they're often found at the most serious of track-days or at tuning shops around the globe. Unfortunately, the power that makes these cars so fun to drive eventually has an impact on the vehicles' suspension components- most notably the rear differential bushings. Despite having alloted for two mounting bushings on the factory tubular subframe, BMW opts to use only a single offset bushing in the rear to mount the diff bracket to the subframe. This essentially creates a pivot point for the diff under torque loading, especially if the 4x front diff bushes are worn out and softer than they once were. With hard launches and sudden and frequent on-off throttle changes, the single rear OE rubber bushing is subject to extreme torsional and directional forces, resulting in rapid degradation with failure often seen at around the 30,000-40,000 mile mark, and an unsettled and potentially clunky rear-end. The PFR5-4030 Dual Mount Diff Bracket is made from our in-house CNC machined 6082 High-Tensile Aluminum, and is designed to utilize the secondary mounting position on the OE subframe. With the addition of a second bushing, this prevents the diff from twisting under load, providing benefits such as: Reduced drivetrain movement Improved throttle response A more controlled and consistent chassis response to acceleration/deceleration Improved tire-to-road power transfer due to reduced wheel hop Reduced strain on bushings The corrosion-resistant, satin black, anodized aluminum bracket is optimized for high stress and deflection while withstanding high torque loads, but serves the same purpose in road-use and track-use cars with either a single OE bushing or dual aftermarket bushings. Although the bracket can be fitted without the need to remove the subframe from the vehicle completely, we would strongly recommend combining Powerflex products by using our already hugely popular 80A durometer PFR5-4026 Rear Diff Rear Mounting Bushings for both rear mounting positions alongside our PFR5-4025 Rear Diff Front Mounting Bushings in the front for the ultimate in differential control and a lasting street or track solution.

Differential bushings are responsible for keeping the differential in solid alignment while dampening drivetrain vibration. While OE rubber bushings are fine when they are new from the factory, aged and worn out rubber bushings create a multitude of issues that can range from annoying to dangerous. As a factory bushing ages, it begins to harden and become brittle. When this happens the bushing will actually shrink and allow for movement at the differential mounting point. At this point, the differential is free to shift under load causing a noticeable clunking noise under acceleration and deceleration and massively increasing the stress on the driveshaft and axles. Manual transmissions suffer the worst from this as it can make shifting difficult since the differential will shift when the clutch is engaged and disengaged.

By replacing these bushings with full polyurethane, the movement is eliminated since the mounting point is supported by a much stiffer material that will not harden or shrink over time. This means less stress on the driveshaft and axles and greater longevity of supporting components.

Engineered to perform, Powerflex performance polyurethane differential bushings offer a supreme level of control, while still providing enough comfort for the street, with advanced polyurethane that reduces NVH that often accompanies lesser bushings. Expect improved acceleration response, more direct shifting feel and overall improved drivetrain composure with Powerflex performance polyurethane bushings.

Poweflex is a leading manufacturer of aftermarket suspension bushings. Using state of the art design and manufacturing, all replacement bushings are engineered to out-perform and out-last the ones that came in the car. Each line of bushings is meticulously tested and then re-tested to ensure perfect fitment and enduring quality through the life of the vehicle. A full lifetime warranty backs every one of their products and demonstrates the level of confidence and commitment Powerflex has to their customers.

Sway bars transmit cornering forces from the outside wheels to the inside wheels, helping to keep the vehicle flat during cornering. This, in turn, reduces body roll and improves the driver's cornering confidence. OEM rubber sway bar bushings are designed with comfort in mind, allowing the sway bar to articulate while permitting additional movement, leading to less-than-ideal bar retention and causes unnecessary body roll.

Powerflex polyurethane sway bar bushings are firmer than factory rubber bushings, reducing body roll and keeping sway bars in check. Polyurethane bushings won't slop around like OEM bushings, allowing sway bars to function at their fullest potential.

Control arm bushings play a key role in connecting the wheels to the chassis of the vehicle. Tasked with keeping suspension geometry in check while absorbing noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) factory rubber bushings were engineered to provide a balance of comfort and control. As a factory bushing ages, it becomes brittle and begins to harden. When this happens the bushing will actually shrink and allow excess play in the suspension joint. This is typically felt by a sudden jerk forward after the car comes to a stop and is a leading cause of "sloppy" or "loose" suspension feel. By replacing the bushing with a full polyurethane unit or using a bushing insert, this play is eliminated since the suspension joint is being supported by a much stiffer material that will not harden or shrink over time. Additionally, the inherent stiffness of the urethane material translates body forces much more directly. This means steering inputs from the driver are effectively transferred to the wheels and vital road information is transmitted properly from the wheels to the driver.

Powerflex street bushings are ideal for street driven vehicles and those that see occasional autocross or track time. Need bushings for a dedicated track car? Powerflex Black Series bushings are the ultimate in track and race bushings. Featuring 95A durometer polyurethane, Black Series bushings are 25% stiffer than street bushings. Engineered to perform, Powerflex performance polyurethane control arm bushings offer a supreme level of control, while still providing enough comfort for the street, with advanced polyurethane that reduces NVH that often accompanies lesser bushings. Expect improved steering feel, turn in, more responsive handling and overall improved chassis composure with Powerflex performance polyurethane control arm bushings.

Key Features:

  1. High-Performance Polyurethane: Unlike the factory rubber bushings, which degrade over time due to age, heat, and exposure to oils, Powerflex bushings are made from long-lasting polyurethane. This material is more resistant to wear and provides consistent performance in various driving conditions.

  2. Increased Rear-End Stability: The rear beam bushing controls the movement of the rear suspension. By upgrading to Powerflex bushings, you reduce flex and movement in the rear suspension, resulting in a more stable and predictable rear end. This is especially important in older models where worn-out bushings can cause excessive body roll and instability.

  3. Handling Improvements: Powerflex bushings tighten up the rear suspension, which helps improve cornering performance and reduces rear-end sway. With better alignment retention, you’ll experience sharper, more responsive handling, especially during spirited driving or cornering.

    • Black Series: For those looking for maximum performance, especially in motorsport or track settings, the Black Series bushings are made from stiffer polyurethane. They offer increased control at the cost of higher NVH, making them suited for drivers focused on performance over comfort.
  5. Direct OEM Replacement: These bushings are designed to replace the OEM bushings without the need for custom modifications. This makes installation relatively straightforward, though professional installation is recommended for optimal results.

  6. Longevity and Durability: Powerflex bushings offer long-term reliability, lasting far longer than rubber bushings. They resist common forms of wear such as cracking and deterioration, which often plague rubber bushings over time in older BMWs like the E24 and E28.

Applications:

  • BMW E24 6 Series (1976-1989)
  • BMW E28 5 Series (1981-1988)

The Powerflex Handling Pack for the BMW F2X (2 Series) and F3X (3 Series) RWD is an all-in-one solution for improving the handling, stability, and overall driving dynamics of these rear-wheel-drive BMW models. This pack is designed to replace the softer factory rubber bushings with durable polyurethane bushings, giving the car a sharper, more responsive feel, particularly under demanding driving conditions.

Components of the Powerflex Handling Pack:

  1. Front Control Arm Bushings:

    • Upgrading these bushings significantly reduces flex in the front suspension, resulting in more precise steering and better feedback from the road. With less deflection, the suspension geometry remains more consistent, particularly during hard braking or cornering.
  2. Front Anti-Roll Bar Bushings:

    • Replacing the factory rubber anti-roll bar bushings with firmer polyurethane helps reduce body roll, ensuring that the vehicle stays more level through corners. This provides enhanced cornering grip and stability, making the car feel more agile and responsive.
  3. Rear Trailing Arm Bushings:

    • These bushings maintain proper rear wheel alignment by reducing movement in the trailing arms. This leads to better rear-end stability during cornering, braking, and acceleration, and prevents unwanted changes in toe alignment, which can affect handling.
  4. Rear Anti-Roll Bar Bushings:

    • Firmer rear anti-roll bar bushings enhance rear stability and reduce body roll. This upgrade ensures that the car's rear suspension reacts more quickly and precisely during cornering, helping to maintain balance and grip, especially in high-performance driving scenarios.
  5. Rear Subframe Bushings:

    • Powerflex's rear subframe bushings provide a more rigid connection between the subframe and the chassis, reducing movement under load. This translates to improved power delivery, reduced wheel hop during acceleration, and better overall suspension control.

Benefits of the Powerflex Handling Pack:

  • Increased Handling Precision: With stiffer bushings throughout the suspension system, the vehicle will experience less deflection and flex, leading to sharper steering response and more predictable handling.

  • Reduced Body Roll: By stiffening the anti-roll bar bushings, the handling pack helps reduce body roll, keeping the vehicle more level during cornering and providing a more planted feel.

  • Improved Stability: With upgraded bushings in key suspension areas like the control arms and subframe, the handling pack provides better stability and control, particularly under heavy loads and during high-speed cornering.

  • Enhanced Road Feedback: The firmer bushings provide better feedback from the road, giving the driver a clearer sense of what the car is doing and allowing for more precise inputs during performance driving.

  • Long-Lasting Durability: Polyurethane bushings are more resistant to wear, deformation, and environmental factors compared to traditional rubber bushings, meaning the handling pack will last longer and maintain its performance over time.

  • Balanced Performance: Despite the increased stiffness, the handling pack is engineered to minimize increases in noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH), making it suitable for both daily driving and performance use.

Installation Considerations:

  • Direct Replacement: All components in the Powerflex Handling Pack are designed to replace the original rubber bushings without requiring modifications to the suspension. However, due to the technical nature of the installation, professional installation is recommended to ensure proper fitment and alignment.

Applications:

  • BMW F2X 2 Series (RWD): This includes models like the 218i, 220i, 228i, M235i, and M240i.
  • BMW F3X 3 Series (RWD): This includes models like the 316i, 320i, 328i, 330i, 335i, and 340i.

Poweflex is a leading manufacturer of aftermarket suspension bushings. Using state of the art design and manufacturing, all replacement bushings are engineered to out-perform and out-last the ones that came in the car. Sway bars transmit cornering forces from the outside wheels to the inside wheels, helping to keep the vehicle flat during cornering. This in turn reduces body roll and improves the driver's cornering confidence.

For the BMW E46 M3, upgrading the rear subframe front bushings is a smart move for both performance enhancement and preventive maintenance. The rear subframe is a critical component in the E46 M3’s suspension system, and using stronger, more durable bushings helps to ensure the car’s longevity and improve its overall handling dynamics.

Features and Benefits of Upgraded Rear Subframe Front Bushings:

  • Enhanced Strength and Durability: Upgraded bushings, like those from Powerflex or AKG Motorsport, are made from materials such as polyurethane or even solid aluminum. These materials are much stronger than the stock rubber bushings, which tend to wear out, crack, and degrade over time due to exposure to heat, road grime, and oils.
  • Improved Handling Performance: By installing stiffer bushings, the rear subframe's movement is reduced, resulting in a more connected and responsive feel from the chassis. This leads to better handling, sharper cornering, and more precise suspension performance under load, making it ideal for track use or spirited street driving.
  • Increased Rear End Stability: With stronger bushings, the subframe stays more securely mounted to the chassis, reducing the flex that can occur during hard acceleration or cornering. This helps to enhance the rear end’s stability, giving drivers more confidence, especially in high-performance driving scenarios.
  • Protection Against Subframe Issues: The E46 M3 is notorious for rear subframe issues, where cracks can develop in the subframe mounting points over time. Upgrading the bushings helps distribute forces more evenly, reducing the likelihood of stress fractures and extending the life of the subframe.
  • Long-Term Solution: High-quality polyurethane or solid bushings are designed to last much longer than the OEM rubber ones. They provide a long-lasting upgrade that doesn’t degrade quickly, making them a "fit-and-forget" solution for many drivers.

Installation and Considerations:

  • Direct OEM Replacement: These upgraded bushings are designed to replace the factory bushings without the need for modification. However, installation can be labor-intensive, as the rear subframe must be dropped to access the bushings.
  • Reinforcement Opportunity: Since the E46 M3 is known for subframe cracking, many owners opt to upgrade their bushings in combination with rear subframe reinforcement plates, which are welded to the chassis to prevent cracks from forming. This makes it an ideal time to tackle both issues together.
  • Minimal Increase in NVH: Polyurethane bushings are stiffer than rubber but generally do not add a significant amount of noise, vibration, or harshness (NVH). However, solid aluminum bushings, while offering the highest performance, can introduce more NVH, which may not be ideal for daily driving.

Best Applications:

  • Performance Upgrades: If you're modifying your E46 M3 for track use, autocross, or performance street driving, upgrading to stiffer rear subframe front bushings is a must for better handling and durability.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Even if you're not tracking your car, replacing worn-out bushings with polyurethane or solid bushings can help prevent subframe issues and extend the life of your suspension system.
