These 2-piece floating rotors help dissipate heat better than a standard cast iron rotor and are also lighter for less unsprung weight. Managing heat in the brake system is vital to braking performance, especially on the track or when driven hard. It's why your brake rotors have internal vanes that vent heat as the rotor spins. These 2-piece ECS rotors feature an outer cast iron friction surface ring that is separate from the aluminum center hat. This allows better airflow through the vanes and for the friction ring can expand as it gets hot. The rotors are also cross-drilled for better ventilation and slotted to improve brake pad performance.

The rotors are one of the main components of your braking system, as they are used to create friction with the pads. When you press the brake pedal, the pistons in the calipers squeeze the pads down onto the rotors, which in turn, will bring your vehicle to a stop.

There are several ways in which your brake rotors can get damaged. Excessive rust is a hazard in rotors made with iron, but warping seems to be the most common issue. When a rotor becomes warped, excessive heat causes a disproportionate expansion of the braking surface of the rotor. This can lead to vibration in the steering wheel and elsewhere while braking.

If it's time to replace your rotors, also consider replacing your pads. Turner Motorsport carries a wide variety of stock replacement and performance pads to restore or upgrade braking performance. Keep your braking system in top-notch condition by checking and replacing components whenever wear is visible or suspected.

The stock M5 brakes provide a powerful upgrade over the stock brakes on non-M E60 models - 525i, 528i, 530i, 535i, 545i, and 550i. This kit uses the factory E60 M5 front 2-piston calipers with M5 rotors for a bolt on braking upgrade. Everything comes complete - 2-piston calipers, rotors, caliper bracket, stainless brake lines, and a pad sensor. This is a direct fit to all non-M E60 RWD models and comes with a lot more braking power than standard. Consequently there will be more front brake bias - the front brakes have more bite than before. During normal street driving all you will notice is that the brakes feel stronger. For track driving we recommend a more aggressive rear pad to balance the brake bias or a StopTech or Brembo big brake kit that has been properly engineered for the chassis (not a retrofit).
