When modifying the car and increasing boost, installing an upgraded intercooler is essential to keep the engine computer from restraining boost as temperatures climb. The stock air-air intercooler is quickly overcome with heat and can't keep the intake air cool enough. If it's too hot the engine computer will reduce power to safer levels. This Dinan intercooler is a dual-core air-air design with an astounding 240% more surface area than the factory intercooler. The temperature at boost is 60% cooler at 6,250 RPM with the Dinan Dual Core compared to stock. Even heat soak at low speeds is reduced, making this a worthwhile addition even for stock or mildly tuned engines. Professional installation is strongly recommended as bumper removal is required and several pieces in the front end need to be cut and trimmed. The factory charge piping in and out of the intercooler is re-used.

Transform the M550i/M850i engine bay with the Dinan carbon fiber intake system and enjoy added top end power, improved throttle response as well as an overhauled visual appearance that embodies the raw strength of the stout V8 motor!

To propel these hefty, yet capable, luxury vehicles, a large volume of air is required to be fed into two powerful turbochargers. The stock airboxes that provide this air utilize restrictive panel filters and artificially limit air volume. With a few small tweaks, however, a more efficient system with increased flow capacity that yields more power can be achieved. That is exactly what Dinan has done with the revised and improved carbon fiber cold air intake system for the M550i and M850i. Retaining the factory lower boxes for simplicity but enlarging the air box lids via the removal of the unused "U" channels afforded the opportunity to be able to not only increase volume by 54%, but also allowed the use of bespoke high-flow cone filters with 22% more surface area than the factory panel filters. The improvements continue down the intake tract with the enlarged volume of air transitioning into an organically shaped intake pipe that grants a more natural and unhindered flow path into the turbo. The combination of these improved features means the engine is allowed to ingest more cold air with less restriction resulting in top end gains of +17 WHP / +18 ft-lbs of torque.

Performance aside, the cosmetics of the system have also undergone a massive makeover and now showcase a luxurious 2x2 gloss carbon weave instead of the lifeless black plastic seen in stock trim. The natural shapes/lines that were integrated to improve flow dynamics are extended beyond the engineering of the kit and are on full display outwardly as well. Dinan's Cold Air Intake system for the F10 M5 adds two additional intake snorkels to complement the factory intake ducts to the airboxes (a total of 4 intake ducts feeding air into the engine). Dinan studied the aerodynamics and packaging of the front end to determine where additional intakes can take in air. New airbox covers incorporate carbon fiber air ducts that run to the top of the radiator support where it gets a ram-air effect from the front grilles. The new airbox cover and piping are designed with a composite material that blocks hot air. A K&N high flow air filter that has 77% more surface area than stock sits in the new airbox. Dinan has shown peak gains of 13hp and 9ft-lbs of torque from the intake alone but greater gains come at higher RPM where more airflow is required.
