Here's the latest release of Autotecknic's brand new version II carbon mirror covers for the F87 M2 Competition, F80 M3, and the F82/ F83 M4. These version II dry carbon mirror covers weigh only 121 grams, VS the version I ABS overlay at 239 grams on each side; that’s almost half the weight shaved! Other than the mounting clips, it's made of 100% carbon fiber, is lighter in weight, and has a higher tensile strength than the ABS overlaid version. Dry carbon fiber's name comes from its manufacturing process. Dry carbon fiber is formed by using a "pre-preg" or impregnated piece of carbon materials. This piece of carbon is first placed into a mold and then into a sealed vacuum (autoclave) to properly cure. This method creates the least amount of waste and forms a lighter version of carbon than the “wet” method. The autoclave vacuuming process of making dry carbon means fewer pinholes and virtually no air pockets that form in the carbon.
