BMW Racing Brake Pads

Race pads work in the temperature ranges commonly seen from repeated braking from high speeds on the racetrack. It's the repeated hard braking from very high speeds that requires a very special brake pad. Nearly all street and mixed-use pads will become ineffective at serious track speeds. Racing brake pads are made up of metallic, ceramic, and composite materials that better manage escalating temperatures while also providing exceptional braking performance. Race pads work within a prescribed temperature range (usually in excess of 600*F) - seldom seen on the street. Rotor wear, especially when cold, is significantly more than any other pad. These pads also produce a lot of brake dust which is also corrosive to paint finishes (wheels, fenders, etc). However, when in their temperature ranges, these pads stop better than anything else.

Racing brake pads only work well when matched as a front and rear set. We do not recommend using only a front set when on the track. Although in some situations, mixing race compounds can be done to achieve specific results (brake balance, wheel lock-up, turn-in, etc).

Factory camber adjustment features an eccentric bolt, permitting about one degree of adjustment - usually sufficient for adjusting daily-driven vehicles at factory ride height to mediocre factory alignment specifications with little care for handling or tire wear. The RSL29 pad is an endurance racing compound with long life and great wear characteristics. It has stable friction over a broad temperature range which makes them a very easy to use and predictable braking pad in a lot of environments. An evolution of the RSL19 endurance pad designed for more advanced drivers. This compound combines the outstanding wear rate of the RSL19 with a slightly higher coefficient of friction and initial bite. RSL29 also features improved hot fade resistance over the RSL19. In addition to the endurance racing, this pad will also be found in GT and VLN classes and Touring Cars (including our own E46 World Challenge cars). BMW has been using Pagid Yellow pads on their Nurburgring test vehicles and Ring Taxi for years.

The latest in the Yellow line takes all of the RSL29 characteristics and adds a bit more aggressive behavior. Friction levels go up for more initial bite and better fade resistance. Modulation and release stays close to RSL29 levels. Pad and rotor wear is a little more than on the previous Yellows but still within reasonable levels and the RSL1 is still considered an extended endurance pad. Its development stemming from GT classes at Le Mans and Nürburgring.

Since Pagid pads tend to "out-gas" we recommend using these pads with a new gas-slotted or cross-drilled rotor for the best performance. Pagid brake pads are not compatible with previously used rotors, especially if used with a carbon or Kevlar based race pad.

Yellow RSL19: Racing - Pagid's classic compound for endurance racing on the basis of the RS 14. A slight reduction of the friction value improves the modulation (controllability). Constant temperatures up to 600C (1.100F) are possible. The combination of friction value, fading stability and low wear rateson pads and discs (rotors) realized with this pad compound is unmatched up to now. Due to its outstanding wear rate and driveability, PAGID endurancematerials are often used at sprint races. A multiple winner of Daytona 24h, Le Mans 24h, Sebring 12h, Spa 24 h, Nurburgring 24h, often with no pad change and usually no disc (rotor) change.
