Two different problem codes, 2A87 "Outlet-Vanos variable cam control test" and "2A82 Inlet-Vanos variable cam control test", are thrown indicating the possibility of various VANOS-related problems. The timing chain tensioner from the 1995 E36 M3 is a great upgrade for other Motorsport models - 1988-1991 E30 M3 and 1989-1995 E34 M5! This tensioner virtually eliminates the cold start-up engine rattle so common with the S14 and S38 engines. It makes the whole engine quieter and smoother. Any new tensioner will accomplish that but the S50 tensioner has several new features that make it superior to the original design. This unit also has a internally loaded spring, so installation is much easier than the old style tensioner (no need to squeeze the spring and hold it while installing). Includes oil seal ring (not pictured).

This oil pipe hose runs from the VAN0S adjusting unit to the oil filter housing. At some point the rubber line shrinks or cracks and oil can weep out of the swedge fittings. The fittings at the banjo bolts can also leak so replacing the seals for each banjo fitting is strongly recommended.

When doing any sort of repair or maintenance there is no replacement for genuine factory parts. Turner Motorsport carries the Genuine BMW brand with pride and has the parts you need to complete your next project with confidence.

BMW introduced VANOS in the early 90s, and it added variable valve timing to the straight six engines. Over time the VANOS unit wears out which can cause error codes or VANOS rattle. Race German has sourced quality replacement parts in an easy kit. Seal Kit: 1 PTFE Teflon Ring Seal 1 FKM (Viton) O Ring Seal 2 Copper Oil Pipe Washers Anti Rattle Bushing Set (1 Bushing + 2 Bearings) OEM Vanos Sealing Gasket *Note: a modified 18mm socket is needed to disassemble the VANOS unit. We are now offering this socket at a small charge. If you have a 1993 model single VANOS car, the 18mm socket will not work. You will need a modified 17mm socket. This kit does not include the modified sockets.
