BMW Drivetrain Parts

Building your perfect BMW is more than just adding horsepower and stiff suspension. Your drivetrain needs attention in order to deliver power effectively. Most BMWs feature comfortable clutch discs, heavy flywheels, long shifter throws, and open differentials. The drivetrain transmits power to the wheels, but can also be a source of power loss when it is designed for comfort rather than performance. Everything on this page will help you improve your power delivery and driving experience by providing custom Limited Slip Differentials, Short Shift Conversions, Performance Clutch Discs, Lightweight Flywheels, and anything else your BMW needs to be the perfect driving experience.

Unlike other aftermarket mounts, the mounting plate and studs of our mounts have been Zinc-plated to prevent corrosion. Rogue Engineering Transmission Mounts are sold as a pair, and come with Grade 8 Zinc plated hardware. Rogue Engineering transmission mounts are designed with street comfort in mind while still reducing left and right movement of the transmission. By using a cylindrical shape instead of the factory hourglass like design and utilizing Neoprene rubber deflection can be significantly reduced, minimizing unwanted transmission movement while maintaining vibration dampening characteristics.

The stock center support bearing carrier is designed to reduce NVH to the cabin by loosely holding the center bearing with a flimsy rubber bushing. During launches and shifts, the driveshaft is allowed to travel off-center, decreasing throttle response and causing oscillations through the drivetrain. As they age, the carrier rubber sags and dry rots, ruining the driveshaft alignment. Fix or prevent this common issue with JXB Performance's Driveshaft Center Support Bearing Upgrade! JXB utilizes a simple but extremely effective 2-piece design which allows you to install this upgrade and replace bushings with ease. The stock center support carrier is simply cut away, allowing the JXB bushings to "clamp" down on the driveshaft bearing and hold the driveshaft securely in place, maintaining driveshaft alignment at all times.

The stock center support bearing carrier is engineered to minimize noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) in the cabin by loosely securing the center bearing with a soft rubber bushing. However, this design allows the driveshaft to move off-center during launches and shifts, reducing throttle response and causing drivetrain oscillations. Over time, the rubber bushing can sag or dry rot, leading to misalignment of the driveshaft.

Prevent or fix this common problem with JXB Performance's Driveshaft Center Support Bearing Upgrade! This upgrade features a simple yet highly effective 2-piece design that makes installation and bushing replacement effortless. The stock carrier is cut away, and the JXB bushings securely "clamp" the driveshaft bearing in place, ensuring constant driveshaft alignment.

The Street bushing option from JXB is the most popular choice, offering a significant improvement over the stock design while keeping NVH levels minimal.

Note: Some light NVH, such as a soft hum, may occur at certain speeds. However, with a modified exhaust or open windows, it’s unlikely to be noticeable.

Installation is straightforward and doesn’t require removing the driveshaft. The 2-piece design clamps directly onto the OEM bearing, though removing the old carrier will require a cutting tool.

Two bushing options are available for this kit, Street and Track, both of which are many times better than the stock bushings: The street bushings absorb most of the NVH from the drivetrain. Some light NVH is possible at some speeds in the form of a soft hum. (With a modified exhaust or windows down, you’ll probably never hear it) The track bushings are for those who want no-compromise drivetrain performance. These may create a substantial amount of cabin noise. Not sure which is for you? Try them both, they’re interchangeable! Installation does not require the removal of the driveshaft. The 2-part design clamps around the OEM bearing. The old carrier must be removed, so a cutting tool is required. Looking for replacement or additional bushings? One of the most satisfying upgrades you can make to your BMW is to its factory shifter mechanism. By reducing the shifter's throw, you can give your manual transmission BMW a sportier, more precise feel. However, with so many different "short shift kits" out there, how can you be sure you're making the right decision? With the introduction of the Rogue Engineering OCTANE short shift kit, the choice is now crystal clear!

Rogue Engineering refuses to compromise with "lever substitution" as a method of short shift kit development. Rather than using actual test vehicles for their products, some companies actually dig through OEM factory parts diagrams to determine which factory levers can be substituted with others. This "lever substitution" method of introducing product is unacceptable. These shift kits have been developed and perfected through years of experience in proven short shifter technology, by Co-Founder, Ben Liaw. As longtime BMW enthusiasts know, Ben was single-handedly responsible for introducing and developing the idea of affordable, BMW factory-like, short shift kits for late model BMWs (BL/SS for those young enough to remember!).

Rogue Engineering idea of a short shift kit is not substituting levers in place of factory ones just because "they fit". Throughout the 80s until recently, BMW was notorious for using only a few specific shifter levers for their manual transmission vehicles. For other companies, making just a few "replacement levers" and offering them in place of those factory part numbers was an easy way of calling it a short shift kit. Unfortunately, for those companies, BMW started using many different part numbers making it more difficult to just "swap in a lever".

Rogue Engineering only develops it's short shift kit with test vehicles in their facility, testing numerous prototypes, offering others to test it before settling on its final design. They feel that this old school, real world testing is the best way when modifying OEM ergonomic, sensory-based controls.

The stock center support bearing carrier utilizes an extremely thin layer of rubber to secure the driveshaft, allowing for minimal movement to effectively insulate the cabin from noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH). However, this design is less effective at maintaining proper bearing alignment under heavy loads. Over time, it allows the bearing to gradually sag, disrupting the driveshaft alignment and introducing play in the driveline during gear shifts and throttle application. The original equipment manufacturer (OEM) rubber bushing has a tendency to sag, become brittle, and eventually deteriorate, resulting in dry rot and cracking. Even in well-maintained vehicles, the stock bushing can develop cracks in as little as 5-10 years. When the bushing loses its integrity, it can lead to pronounced vibrations, clunking noises, and increased stress on the bearing. Adding to the challenge, the stock carrier is permanently molded onto the center support bearing, making replacement a difficult task that typically necessitates specialized tools.

If your MINI is only for competition use - autocross, time trial, or racing - this OS Giken LSD may be a better option than the standard 1.5-way unit. This race-spec LSD was developed over several seasons of competitive autocross. It uses a new high pressure ring for quicker response time and faster lockup. This makes it ideal for quick transitions and rapid on/off throttle motions typically encountered on the track. It's a one-way lockup so the car stays predictable under braking and gives the driver more feedback. For street use we prefer the normal 1.5-way setup because it's more progressive during lockup.

The biggest shortcoming of any MINI is not the lack of power - it's being able to put all of its useable power to the ground! The Cooper S is basically a one-wheel drive car and sending 200+ hp through that one tire does not live up to its full potential. A limited-slip differential is essential to any highly-tuned FWD car. The OS Giken Super-Lock is one of the most advanced clutch-type differentials on the market, and a favorite of autocrossers and road racers. The OS LSD for the MINI features ten clutch discs for a smooth and progressive lockup. By putting all of your available power to the ground you're at an instant advantage over the stock open-type differential. You'll be able to power through corners and on rough surfaces instead of uselessly spinning a wheel. Understeer is reduced by giving more bite to the tire that has the most traction. With an LSD in your MINI Cooper S you'll wonder why it wasn't first on your list to begin with (or why MINI/BMW left it out in the first place...).

The MNI OS Giken LSD uses a special 80W250 fluid that must be purchased separately.

This item fits the following BMWs:
2002-2006 R53 MINI MINI Cooper S (6MT manual transmission only)
2007-2013 R56 MINI MINI Cooper S (6MT manual transmission only)

(With a modified exhaust or windows down, you’ll probably never hear it) The track bushings are for those who want no-compromise drivetrain performance. These may create a substantial amount of cabin noise. Not sure which is for you? Try them both, they’re interchangeable! Installation does not require the removal of the driveshaft. The 2-part design clamps around the OEM bearing. The old carrier must be removed, so a cutting tool is required. Looking for replacement or additional bushings? See T#4799658 for replacement street bushings and T#4799659 for replacement track bushings.

The original center support bearing carrier from the factory employs a thin layer of rubber to secure the driveshaft, minimizing movement to reduce noise and vibrations in the vehicle's cabin. However, this design struggles to maintain the bearing's alignment under load, leading to gradual sagging and misalignment of the driveshaft. This, in turn, results in play during gear shifts and throttle application. Even in well-maintained vehicles, the initial rubber bushing can deteriorate and turn brittle, often developing cracks within 5-10 years. When this deterioration occurs, it can lead to heightened vibrations, clunking noises, and increased stress on the bearing. Additionally, replacing the stock carrier is a challenging task because it is permanently connected to the center support bearing, necessitating specialized tools for replacement.

Looking to upgrade your stock differential to the BMW M Performance differential? This kit includes the M Performance limited slip diff plus all the hardware necessary to install the diff in your BMW! What exactly does an LSD do you ask? Well, without an LSD your car is effectively only 1 wheel drive, in that it can't supply torque to both wheels at the same time and will only supply torque to the wheel with less grip, which is what the shortfall is to an open differential (what most vehicles have). An LSD only lets the wheels spin at different speeds by a limited amount, which is typically a percentage difference, which is when the differential locks and both wheels get power. This is not how locked differentials work such as in off-road trucks which supply equal torque and rotational speed to both rear wheels at the same time, which can cause issues with handling.

Adding to the challenge, the stock carrier is permanently molded onto the center support bearing, making replacement a difficult task that typically necessitates specialized tools.

video: E92 335i with limited slip

click for high quality
A turbocharged BMW such as the 135i or 335i needs traction to put that power to the ground. The stock differential of both the 135i and 335i only put power to one wheel -- this just won't cut it! Upgrading to a limited slip differential means power to BOTH wheels, for better lauch, acceleration, and track handling. We're excited to be carrying the OS Giken LSD unit in our performance catalog, as we've used their products on our own Championship winning E46 and E92 race cars.

With the 135i/335i LSD unit, they have incorporated revolutionary new ideas into the design (4 years in the making!) which uses an unprecedented number of friction plates (up to 28 total!) for better locking force, better engagement/disengagement, and less generated heat. The end result of their efforts is the OS Giken's OS Super Lock LSD which offers incredible durability and reliability on street and track driven BMWs. The use of highest quality materials, precise machining, forged gears and sound engineering makes this LSD durable and reliable enough for road racing performance (which we can personally vouch for!). Zero break-in required. Super smooth and quiet engagement, and 100% progressive locking capability.

Installation note: BMW differentials use many unique and BMW-only parts and components. Only technicians who are experienced and familiar with BMW parts should perform the installation. The OS Giken LSD is the limited slip unit (or 'chunk') only. It replaces the stock non-LSD chunk but the original ring and pinion and other internals must be installed with the OS Giken unit. This unit will only work on 335i manual differentials with a bolt-in or modified ring gear. Proper setup and spacing is critical for long life operation. Incorrect installation will void the warranty. We also offer the TCD unit pre-installed - see our performance diff catalog for more info.

The OS Giken Superlock Diff unit fits the following BMWs:
2008-2012 E82 BMW 135i with manual transmission
2007-2011 E90 BMW 335i - Sedan with manual transmission
2007-2013 E92 BMW 335i 335is - Coupe with manual transmission
