A drop in oil pressure can spell disaster at the wrong time. Although most modern BMWs do not have an oil pressure gauge, the DME continually monitors internal pressure and will let you know if there is a problem with the pump.
Located at the bottom of the engine, the oil pump feeds pressurized oil through the engine to ensure parts like bearings are well lubricated. A failed oil pump will result in low or no oil pressure which leads to failed bearings, which requires a whole engine rebuild to repair. Replace your oil pump as soon as issues arise to prevent potential bearing or complete engine failure.
