BMW Schrick Performance Camshafts

BMW engines are tuned for top-end power - over 4,500 RPM. If you want to maximize the power available you need to change the camshafts. Schrick is a German performance cam manufacturer renowned for their camshaft tuning and engineering. These are top-of-the-line camshafts from a supplier to some of the world's top automotive brands. AVL-Schrick provides tuning and prototyping to some of the most potent and exclusive performance cars in the world and they have long been the source for BMW performance cams. Installing higher lift/longer duration cams improves engine breathing at higher RPM ranges. By opening the valves faster and for longer periods of time you can let more air in. With the proper fuel and timing you can gain a lot more horsepower. Special tuning and setup is generally required to take advantage of the new dynamics. Schrick cams are direct replacements for the stock cams and usually bolt-in with no additional modification or parts required. For the US E36 M3. Schrick 264/256 degree camshafts boost mid-high end power for that extra motivation at higher rpm. Low-end torque is not seriously affected due to the M50/M52s VAN0S System. And, higher profile cams work extremely well with an upgraded intake and exhaust. When upgrading the cams there are other areas you must take into consideration. Higher-flow fuel injectors, larger mass-air sensor, and custom programming are strongly recommended. Turner Motorsport sells complete intake & cam packages that boost power to over 290hp. Still looking for more power after bolt-ons? High performance camshafts from Schrick are the way to go. These cams are a direct replacement for the stock cams and give a solid 15+ horsepower boost at the top end and great midrange torque increases too! More gains can be expected with intake and header upgrades and custom software tuning. A slightly lumpy idle is expected at cold start but will be smooth once at operating temperature. This set is just a great all-around cam upgrade for the S54!

These Schrick cams were initially developed for the M3 CSL but they also work great on the US and other non-CSL S54 engines as well. With more duration they are a great match to high flow headers, no cats, or CSL intake manifold upgrades. These are the new "cast" cams from Schrick which require new rocker arms (Schrick recommended or BMW part #11337833259). Professional installation is a must due to the intricacies with the double VAN0S.

The 272-degree Schrick Camshaft is 1 step up from the stock cam. The greater lift and duration will boost horsepower at higher rpm where the stock engine may feel a little flat. This is considered a mild, "street" camshaft so low-end torque does not suffer a lot with this cam. Schrick recommends using upgraded valve springs with this cam.

One major hurdle for a track-only car is the limitation of the hydraulic valve lifters in the M50, S50-US, M52, S52-US, M52TU, and M54 engines. These effectively limit your revs to 7200-7300 RPM as the valves 'float' at higher revs, leading to piston-valve contact. By converting to a machined solid lifter, and upgrading other areas of the engine, you can configure the valve train to withstand high RPM running. Not only can you tune for more power, you can help prevent damage during a mild mechanical over-rev.

This kit includes the mechanical spacers to convert hydraulic lifter tappets to solid lifters. The lifter bucket remains in place with the Schrick solid tappet replacing the original. These work on all M50, M52, S50, S52 and M54 engines and were proven in normally aspirated as well as supercharged engines. A custom camshaft is required.

Professional installation and setup is mandatory as these require complete assembly of the head, checking valve lash, then dis-assembly and machining of the Schrick tappet to spec. This kit includes enough spacers for 24 valves. We also carry individual parts, if you are looking for single pieces. This price is for a full set of 24.

These proved to be an excellent upgrade on our first Project E46 M3 and very similar to the stock E46 M3 CSL cams. Smooth as stock idle with a linear increase in horsepower from midrange all the way to redline. Peak gain was 15hp with no loss in low end torque. The duration of the intake cam is 280 and the exhaust is 272 with 12.5mm valve lift. These are the new "cast" cams from Schrick which require new rocker arms (Schrick or BMW part #11337833859). Professional installation is a must due to the intricacies with the double VAN0S.

Intake: 252 degree, 10.2mm lift
Exhaust: 244 degree, 9.5mm lift

With original S50/S52 cams in short supply, and a new set running over $2,000 from BMW, you can source new M3-spec cams from Schrick. These are the same specs as the US S50 engine and very close to the stock S52 cams. These make a great upgrade for M50 (325i, 525i) and M52 engines (328i, 528i) with the proper tuning. These bolt in just like the stock and M3 cams with no special hardware upgrades required - use your stock valve springs, lifters, etc. But for reliability we recommend replacing the lifters, valve springs, and retainers with new stock parts on high mileage engines.

Schrick has developed this high performance rocker arm based on the original factory E46 M3 rocker (cam follower). Schrick coats the contact pad with a DLC coating for reduced friction and improved reliability. The stock S54 rocker arm is un-coated. With more aggressive camshafts there is much higher force and friction on the contact pad which will not only induce more wear on the rocker arm but also lead to higher temperatures and thinning of the oil in a critical spot. The Schrick rocker is preferred over the stock part with any of the more aggressive S54 cams (304/296 or high lift, etc). The DLC coating is extremely hard (DLC = Diamond-Like Coating) but with a graphite content that allows for low friction levels. The DLC coating resists oils and chemicals so it's perfect for an internal part like a cam follower.

New rocker arms are required with any new camshaft installation. Sold per rocker arm.

These are the same cams used by many high-end German tuners who are achieving sizeable gains on the BMW M3 V8. For the power-hungry, these cams are a great way to achieve a linear increase in horsepower from mid-range all the way to redline, especially when combined with exhaust modifications like a set of sport catalytic converters or our TMS Test Pipes.

This is one full set of Schrick cam shafts, 4 cams total, for the S65 V8 M3 engine. These cams are the 284 degree version, and includes two intake cams and two exhaust cams. Professional installation is a must due to the complexity of the dual VAN0S V8 motor.
