Lightweight flywheels have proven themselves to be a worthwhile performance enhancement. But with the quicker throttle response and horsepower improvement comes one serious drawback: flywheel chatter. Without the dual-mass flywheel's rubber isolators, a lightweight aluminum flywheel has more rattle than stock. ECS has designed this flywheel using chrom-moly steel and it weighs almost ten pounds less than the stock DMF but not as extreme as full aluminum flywheels. The steel helps dampen vibration and noise so you get near-factory refinement and most of the benefits of a lightweight flywheel: quicker throttle response, better reliability, and more power to the wheels. This flywheel requires the E34 M5 sprung hub clutch kit.

Modern flywheels are built with additional components that are designed to dampen and minimize vibrations from the engine and transmission. Weight has increased and reliability has decreased. With additional weight more energy is required for it to move. A lightweight flywheel does away with the dual mass design and its additional mass so more energy can be diverted to where it counts most - moving the car. The flywheel and clutch is one of the first areas that engine builders address when making the rotating assembly lighter for race engines. The dampening effect is just not needed on cars that are focused on performance. And with a single-mass flywheel the unreliable DMF design is eliminated.

Stock rubber flex discs allow for a slight amount of give, especially under heavy acceleration and, depending on the amount of force applied, could potentially tear or split. This slight flex/give can prevent instantaneous transfer of force to the wheels, making accelerations unpredictable, or even lead to your vehicle being stuck on the side of the track. To combat this, IRP's Performance Flex Disc was developed. Shifter slop is a common complaint among all BMW models. Some of that play comes from the bushings where the shifter carrier mounts to the transmission. The original rubber carrier bushings don't last very long and when they get too soft the shifter flops around. These Teflon bushings are not as stiff as Delrin so they won't transmit as much vibration and buzz in the shifter. Yet Teflon will last much longer than the factory rubber, giving you precise shifting for many years.

Note: this is only one part of the shift linkage and there may be other components that need replacing to improve shifting feel.

We advise getting a replacement bushing carrier pin as well. If the original rubber bushings are worn the pin will have wear too and you will still have slop in the shifter, even with the new bushings.

The factory center support bearing features an internal rubber bushing to reduce NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) transmission to the cabin. Unfortunately, this material choice falls short when it comes to performance applications. Under extreme load conditions, this bushing is prone to flexing, resulting in driveshaft misalignment. To address the shortcomings of the factory rubber center support carrier design, ECS engineers developed a set of precision-fit, solid rubber bushings that secure tightly around the existing driveshaft bearing. Constructed from 30A durometer rubber, this material eliminates bushing deflection while maintaining minimal noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH). By eliminating deflection, this innovative solution not only improves durability but also ensures a significantly longer service life than the OEM center support bearing—making it an excellent upgrade for aging BMW chassis.

The polyurethane bushings are surrounded by a robust 6061-T6 billet aluminum bracket designed with strength and reliability in mind. This bracket features a split design for hassle-free installation, eliminating the need to remove the driveshaft assembly entirely. To install the ECS Center Support Carrier, simply cut around your existing bearing, remove the factory brace, and clamp on your new bushings and bracket.
