Drivebelts should be checked everytime you are under the hood. While removing them is not necessary you should note the visual condition and track this along with mileage. This is the main drive belt / serpentine belt that drives all of the engine auxiliaries, such as the alternator, water pump, and power steering pump. If your belt has excessive cracks, dry rot, missing teeth and/or grooves, or is causing noise, it's time for a new one.
