The rotors are one of the main components of your braking system, as they are used to create friction with the pads. When you press the brake pedal, the pistons in the calipers squeeze the pads down onto the rotors, which in turn, will bring your vehicle to a stop. There are several ways in which your brake rotors can get damaged. Excessive rust is a hazard in rotors made with iron, but warping seems to be the most common issue. When a rotor becomes warped, excessive heat causes a disproportionate expansion of the braking surface of the rotor. This can lead to vibration in the steering wheel and elsewhere while braking.
