Shifter Upgrades and Components for BMW 3 Series E36 (1992-1998)

Sometimes choosing the correct shift kit proves difficult when you dual-purpose your favorite vehicle, we understand this well. The early days for any race enthusiast usually begins with a car that is needed to daily drive and setup to get out on the track. What becomes difficult is properly modifying that car to feel comfortable in both situations which is why we took this view on our new short shift line. This upgraded lever is a quick swap option to replace the standard shift lever that come with our kits so you can keep your hands closer to the wheel while shifting at high speeds. Designed from anodized aluminum this lever looks great in any interior for the daily driver who simply prefers the taller lever look and feel.

Compatible with stock shift boot fits nicely into the machined groove at the bottom of the lever to maintain a clean look in the interior.
Machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and type II anodized for exceptional durability and corrosion resistance.
Available in either black or clear anodize to match your vehicle’s interior.
Rally shift knob is machined from black delrin.
Unlike aluminum, delrin will not hold heat so on those hot days you won’t have to worry about burning your hand on a knob that’s been baking in the sun.
Shift knob is threaded onto the end of the shift lever utilizing a standard ⅜-16 thread to allow for easy removal and attachment of your favorite beer tap or other accessory.
“Quick Change” height adjustable upper shift lever design allows for quick swapping between optional “OE” style and “Rally Style” upper shift levers.

The 6-speed Getrag 420G transmission, found in the European E36 M3 Evolution and E46 M3, has become an increasingly popular swap amongst E36 owners. Its increased strength, longevity, and overdrive sixth gear make it a great choice for both track cars and daily drivers. Unfortunately, many of the components needed to complete this transplant have become hard to source. Despite increased demand from enthusiasts, BMW has blocked the sale of European E36 M3 parts into North America.

Recognizing this issue, we set out to develop a replacement for the unavailable, 420G-specific selector rod. Like all OEM selector rods, the factory part uses single-shear attachment, allowing for deflection within the shifter linkage. The result? Vague, imprecise gear selections that detract from your overall driving experience. The dual-shear selector rod (DSSR) design spreads the torsional force of gear selections across the selector rod joint, reducing deflection for increased precision. Our dual-shear selector rod is precision-machined from durable 304 stainless steel to further reduce deflection and resist corrosion.

The Dinan short shifter provides shorter shift throws with a crisper and more precise feel than a stock shifter. Instead of retrofitting a stock BMW lever, with all of its deficiencies, Dinan has engineered this billet aluminum shifting system. Special features engineered into this unit include a two piece fully isolated stick assembly, exclusive integrated and dampened pivot cup with self lubricating pivot ball, counter balanced to reduce effort and exclusive polymer "Iglide" T-500 lower pivot bushings that are impervious to contamination. Featuring an adjustable pivot, which allows this shifter to fit both standard and M Series applications.
