Red Line 70W/80W GL-4 MTL gear oil (SAE 5W30/10W30 engine oil viscosity) designed for use in BMW manual transmissions. Provides excellent protection of gears and synchronizers and its balanced slipperiness provides a perfect coefficient of friction, allowing easier shifting. The MTL can be used as a replacement for the factory MTF or MTF-LT2 used by BMW. Add MTL to older BMWs that have become tough to shift will restore shift smoothness. Red Line 75W90 is a full synthetic high-performance gear oil that is an excellent substitute for expensive factory fluid and an upgrade over off-the-shelf economy fluid. Red Line thoroughly evaluates the manufacturer's recommendations and only makes a fluid recommendation if their own product meets or exceeds the original specification. In many cases the Red Line synthetic will outperform the factory supplied fluids. We've been using Red Line Oil in our BMWs since we opened in 1994 and it remains our best selling BMW differential fluid. 75/90 is the weight most commonly used in BMW differentials since the 1960s, including the factory clutch-type limited-slip diffs (exceptions being M3/M5/M6 cars since 2001). We use 75W90 in nearly all BMW chassis and the custom differentials that we sell. It's great for the street where the polyol-ester base has natural lubricity and friction modifiers lead to smoother and quieter operation with lower operating temps than the factory fluid. We also use it in some track cars that don't already use the more aggressive 75/90NS fluid (without friction modifiers).

Recommended or exceeds specifications for API GL-5, GL-6, MT-1, MIL-L-2105E, SAE J2360, and Chrysler spec MS-9763. Matches the specifications for the factory BMW SAF-XO diff fluid (#07512293972).

RED LINE MT-90 is designed to provide excellent protection and improved shiftability for manual transmissions and transaxles. MTL and MT-90 have cured the problem of hard shifting in numerous transmissions which have notoriously difficult shifting. The secret to their success is two-fold. First, they have the appropriate coefficient of friction for most manual transmission synchronizers. Many gear oils, engine oils, and ATFs are too slippery for proper synchro engagement. Secondly, the viscosity characteristics of MTL and MT-90 allow proper shifting over the entire temperature range which the transmission will experience. The synthetic base oils used have a very high viscosity index which provides relatively constant viscosity as temperature changes. MTL is a low 75W, almost a 70W, at very low temperatures and a high 80W, nearly an 85W, at elevated temperatures, providing adequate viscosity to prevent wear and deaden gear noise. MT-90 is a thicker 75W90 version of MTL. The shear stability and oxidation stability of these products are excellent, thus the physical characteristics of Red Line MTL and MT-90 will change little with use.

To prevent excess wear and keep your transmission in top shape, the fluid and filter should be replaced regularly. As per ZF's recommendations, we suggest performing a full service on your 8HP automatic transmission every 50,000 miles. If your vehicle has been modified to produce more power than stock or if it is regularly track-driven, we recommend shorter 30,000-mile service intervals. A unique lubricant containing a suspension of solid microscopic particles as an extreme pressure agent--unique solid dispersion which cushions gear teeth to help prevent tooth breakage and allows the use of lower viscosities. Recommended for heavily-loaded racing differentials and transmissions, Off Road racing and problem gearboxes. The viscosity characteristics allow the lubricant to resist throwoff and provide a film thickness similar to a 75W250 grade, while providing the same low fluid friction as an SAE 75W90.
