This rear guide rod for the E39 chassis helps to control the toe alignment of the car (the horizontal in/out angle of the tire). There is a rubber bushing on the inside and a ball joint on the outside mounting point. When the bushings on the arm wear out they can contribute to a 'wandering' or 'loose' or unstable feeling in the rear. There may also be a clunking noise associated with bumps. This arm is just one part of the rear suspension, and other parts should be checked to confirm which one is causing the issues. Looking to emphasize the sporty side of your 5-series? You can reduce bodyroll and improve the handling with this Bilstein-H&R sport package. By lowering the ride height and center of gravity, and stiffening the springs the car will not roll as much in turns. With less weight transfer the tires stay planted to the road and allow you to carry more speed. All of this with hardly any penalty in the ride quality.

H&R Sport springs lower the ride height by up to 1.3" in front and .75" in the rear depending on if the car has the factory sport suspension or not. The spring rate is also stiffer. Both combine to lower the car's center of gravity and reduce the amount of bodyroll in corners. The springs are progressive rate so their initial stiffness is actually very compliant and it becomes stiffer as the spring is compressed. This is great for street cars that see bumps and potholes where suspension compliance is key. Overall, they are about 30% stiffer than the stock original springs.

We use Bilstein Sport shocks as the dampers and they feature Bilstein's patented and innovative valving system. With this system, small bumps and impacts are absorbed as they should be. But the shocks stiffen for cornering and other suspension motions. It's the best of both worlds as the shock self-adjusts based on suspension motion. These fit with the stock strut and shock mounts, making for an easy and clean install.

Over the years, the road takes a serious toll on your suspension. Pot holes, speed bumps, and road hazards all contribute to a sloppy, weak suspension. To give a better feel to your driving experience, change components as they wear to improve safety and ride comfort.

One item to replace is the control arm. After years of service, the non-serviceable ball joints and other components can begin to wear out. Because some components cannot be replaced, the only solution is replacement of the entire arm.

If replacing any part of your front or rear suspension, it is best to either do it in pairs (both left and right sides), or examine parts that are prone to failure. This will provide the most service life out of replacement parts and assure they are all performing properly.

The first step in reducing bodyroll and making this car faster through turns is to replace the shocks and springs. The lower, stiffer H&R Sport springs for the 535i will lower the ride height and manage weight transfer better than the stock suspension. We package these H&R Springs with a set of Bilstein Sport shocks for a complete upgrade in a discounted package.

This E39 sport suspension uses the H&R Sport lowering springs with the factory OEM Sachs sport suspension shocks to deliver better handling, lower stance, and near-stock levels of ride comfort. Where a Bilstein Sport is a true performance shock, the factory Sachs sport shocks are milder and easier on rough pavement. For a lowered height and prime ride comfort choose this H&R/Sachs kit. For the ultimate performance shock/spring package, choose the H&R/Bilstein kit.

Part of maintaining the precision and crisp handling of your BMW is with refreshing the shock mounts from time to time. The rubber parts that mount the front struts and rear shocks to the chassis suffer from age and mileage just like any other rubber part on the car. Over time they become weak and sloppy and that leads to poor ride characteristics, alignment issues, poor steering feedback and the associated clunks and other noises.

This set of stock mounts replaces the original worn-out shock mounts, bushings, bearings, bump stops, and pads on your existing suspension. This package includes all of the original parts used in the E39 factory sport suspension. If you're overhauling your E39 suspension with the factory sport shocks and springs this is the mount package you need (see our other listings if you're using performance shocks such as Bilstein). Installing new mounts with new struts and shocks will ensure proper performance and avoid doing the labor twice if a used mount fails soon after. Control arms, and their integrated ball joints, are some of the most crucial components on a BMW suspension. The control arms literally control the wheel and suspension as they go through their range of motions. A faulty or worn control arm or ball joint is a very dangerous and potentially life-threatening problem so make sure they are inspected and replaced at regular intervals. For a street-driven car we advise yearly inspection and a full replacement every 3-4 years. For track-driven cars these should be inspected before every event and replaced every two years.

Part of maintaining the precision and crisp handling of your BMW is with refreshing the shock mounts from time to time. The rubber parts that mount the front struts and rear shocks to the chassis suffer from age and mileage just like any other rubber part on the car. Over time they become weak and sloppy and that leads to poor ride characteristics, alignment issues, poor steering feedback and the associated clunks and other noises.

This set of stock mounts replaces the original worn-out shock mounts, bushings, bearings, bump stops, and pads on your existing suspension. We have built this package specifically for use with an aftermarket performance suspension such as our Bilstein/H&R package or other similar performance shocks and springs. This makes a great package when upgrading the non-sport package as the original standard mounts and bushings were not designed for the sport/performance suspension. Installing new mounts with new struts and shocks will ensure proper performance and avoid doing the labor twice if a used mount fails soon after. These are all factory BMW or OEM parts so they fit right and perform just like the factory original parts.

Included in our E39 mount kit is:

front strut bearing dust cap

front strut mount

front upper cupped washer (lower dust cap)

flat washer

front upper spring plate

front upper spring pad

front lower spring pad

rear upper cupped washer

These are all factory BMW or OEM parts so they fit right and perform just like the factory original parts.
