Our Stage 1 kit featuring a cold-air intake kit and matching performance software. The aFe intake is a cone filter with a heat-blocking shield around it. The larger surface area of the filter, combined with the heat shield, allow more cool air to enter the engine - creating more power and torque, a richer engine sound, and better throttle response. The kit is supplied complete with heat shield, intake tube, sealing materials, hardware, and install instructions.

The software is tuned by BMW tuning whiz Jim Conforti and supplied with the Shark Injector. The Shark Injector is a do-it-yourself reflash tool that plugs into the OBD diagnostic plug in your dash. With the push of a button, it will copy your stock software and reflash your computer with the performance tune. You can set it back to stock at any time by following the same procedure.

Both of these items are packaged and work together. They provide a solid performance boost with a low upfront cost. For an excellent 'bang for the buck' upgrade, the software and intake are a great choice (TMS Underdrive Pulleys would also be on that list).

Related Upgrades: We are often asked what would complement our software and intake packages. Within any Stage, we recommend our Underdrive Power Pulley Kits. The Power Pulley Kit will under-drive the alternator, water pump, and power steering pump. Under-driving means each component is moving slower which requires less power. The saved horsepower is put back to the engine where it transfers to power at the wheels. Power gains are typically 10 horsepower at the wheels.

Part of maintaining the precision and crisp handling of your BMW is with refreshing the shock mounts from time to time. The rubber parts that mount the front struts and rear shocks to the chassis suffer from age and mileage just like any other rubber part on the car. Over time they become weak and sloppy and that leads to poor ride characteristics, alignment issues, poor steering feedback and the associated clunks and other noises.

This set of stock mounts replaces the original worn-out shock mounts, bushings, bearings, bump stops, and pads on your existing suspension. This package includes all of the original parts used in the E39 factory sport suspension. If you're overhauling your E39 suspension with the factory sport shocks and springs this is the mount package you need (see our other listings if you're using performance shocks such as Bilstein). Installing new mounts with new struts and shocks will ensure proper performance and avoid doing the labor twice if a used mount fails soon after. These are all factory BMW or OEM parts so they fit right and perform just like the factory original parts.

The lower spring perch was redesigned to be stronger and our mount kits cover front struts that have already been replaced under this recall. If yours has not been done we strongly recommend contacting your BMW dealer and having the recall and replacement parts installed. This does not apply to most aftermarket struts, including Bilstein, as their spring perch incorporates the new design.

This is a compete cooling system overhaul kit, which includes all the common cooling system failure parts bundled into a complete package. This cooling system package is for the 1997-1998 540i with the M62 4.4-liter engine (non-VAN0S). This package applies to cars equipped with either the manual or automatic transmission (select the appropriate parts in the menu below).

A failure in the cooling system can lead to overheating and catastrophic engine failure. Don't gamble your engine! There are three versions of the water pump for the early 1997-1998 540i: OEM plastic impeller, updated metal impeller, and the more recently updated composite impeller. We recommend either the metal or composite impeller. These are what we use the most in our shop and what our technicians are comfortable with. On more recent models, BMW has used the composite impeller as original. There doesn't seem to be evidence of the plastic failing on this design (it did on the E36 3-series) but we feel most comfortable with the other options. Both the metal and composite manufacturers are OEM for BMW.
