If you think your water pump is starting to fail, replace it as soon as you can. The main downside to an electric water pump is you may also notice nothing - nothing but overheating! Keep your eyes peeled for warning signs it may be time to replace your water pump. N54 and N55 engines are prone to water pump failure - replace every 60,000 miles. Comes with electric water pump and installation hardware. Aluminum mounting bolts are one time use. Replace every time the water pump is removed.

The N54 engine is no stranger to oil cooling problems, that’s why we recommend installing the MSL Oil Thermostat. The standard oil thermostat will reach around 120 degrees Celsius with a normal driving style. The MSL Oil Thermostat will open at a lower temperature than the standard oil thermostat (at 85 degrees Celsius) and will keep the temperature stable between 95 and 105 degrees Celsius. Installing the MSL thermostat ensures a cooler oil temperature which will result in more stable performance, but above all this improves the reliability of the engine. It is recommended to install the thermostat, especially for cars that are tuned.

Engine running a little hot or is the temp gauge not telling you anything? The thermostat might be the likely problem. Many cooling issues start with the thermostat. This is electronically controlled by the engine computer based on the cooling demands from the engine. And cooling components are working harder than ever. Engine performance is also dependent on temperature - as temperatures rise and pass a certain threshold the engine computer will begin reducing power. Stay on top of your cooling maintenance by replacing critical components preventatively. This replacement thermostat fits many of the N55 6 cylinder engines and is an Wahler part. The thermostat is located along with the water pump on the side of the engine. To gain access for removal you may need to remove the water pump as well. If the water pump is removed you MUST replace its mounting bolts. You can add them from the options below. We also have a bundled package that includes the water pump, mounting screws, connecting hose, and clamps if you want to replace everything together (recommended).
