A common cause of check engine light and limp mode after running the car hard. Restarting the car commonly clears the code and/or limp mode. Two different problem codes, 2A87 "Outlet-Vanos variable cam control test" and "2A82 Inlet-Vanos variable cam control test", are thrown indicating the possibility of various VANOS-related problems. The VANOS solenoid controls variable camshaft timing by controlling oil flow to the VANOS adjustment unit. These commonly fail at higher milages but are easy to replace.
