BMW Performance Clutch Kits & Parts for BMW 1 Series E82 (2008-2013)

Clear BMW chassis

Please ensure your correct model is selected

These heavy-duty clutch kits use aluminum lightweight flywheels with sport clutch components to give your clutch the grip and clamping force it needs to cope with high torque upgrades. Our kits were developed through racing programs by companies affiliated with our own race team - JB Racing, Sachs Sport, OS Giken, and UUC Motorwerks. JB Racing is the leader in aluminum lightweight flywheel upgrades. They are direct replacements for the stock dual-mass flywheels with steel contact surfaces and computer balanced to 14,000 RPM. JB has partnered with Sachs to spec sport/HD clutch discs and pressure plates that work seamlessly with their aluminum flywheels. The result is a clutch/flywheel upgrade package that functions a lot like the original clutch combo with near-stock levels of effort and engangement but with a much higher torque capacity. Don't let the clutch be your weak link in a highly tuned car!

If you've ever bled the clutch hydraulic system on your BMW, you know how frustrating it can be. Designed with both DIY enthusiasts and professional technicians in mind, our clever tool simplifies one of the most notoriously annoying steps in clutch service.

Crafted from high-quality aluminum and finished in a durable black anodized coating, our clutch slave cylinder bleeder tool is built to last. Its function is simple: the adjustable piston rod applies controlled pressure directly to the clutch slave cylinder’s piston, compressing it and reducing its internal volume. By minimizing the amount of air trapped inside the cylinder, bleeding becomes faster, cleaner, and far more effective—no more endless pedal pumping or inconsistent clutch feel. The result is firm, consistent clutch pedal engagement and a smoother overall driving experience, all achieved with less time and effort underneath the car.

FEATURES & BENEFITS

Simplifies bleeding the BMW clutch hydraulic system by reducing trapped air in the slave cylinder Eliminates excessive pedal pumping and inconsistent clutch feel Helps achieve firm, consistent clutch pedal engagement Crafted from high-quality aluminum for strength and longevity Durable black anodized finish resists wear and corrosion Designed for both DIY enthusiasts and professional technicians PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Our Clutch Slave Cylinder Bleeder Tool was designed, engineered, tested, and quality inspected by our Research and Development team at Turner. Nothing but the highest level of precision and quality through leading-edge product development technology, including FARO laser scanning for reverse engineering and quality inspection, SolidWorks 3D CAD modeling, rapid prototyping utilizing our in-house 3D printer, and rigorous long-term product testing.

Attention is always given to your shift linkage feel, whether it's replacing bushings, installing a short shift kit, or changing the height or weight of your shift knob. However, most enthusiasts don't think about the feel of their clutch pedal. Turner intends to change that with the introduction of the new Stainless Steel Clutch Lines, to provide a more direct and consistent pedal feel.

Under heavy and aggressive use, your stock rubber clutch line expands, resulting in a spongy pedal feel. This expansion is even more prominent in aged and weathered rubber lines. Turner Motorsport stainless reinforced clutch lines provide more confident and dependable shifting by maintaining consistent line pressure, long lasting corrosion resistance, and increased protection from failure. Our lines are reinforced with braided stainless steel mesh, affording superior expansion resistance over Factory and OE style clutch lines. This resistance to expansion creates a firmer pedal, and a more direct clutch pedal feel. The signature blue polymer coating provides additional protection from the elements and abrasion.

The best part about Turner clutch lines? They are manufactured in-house to the highest possible standard. All lines are made on dedicated, specialized equipment and each is tested to 3000 psi before being shipped.

Turner Motorsport stocks a large inventory of premium drivetrain components, including high-performance clutches, lightweight flywheels, short shift kits, upgraded bushings, and a wide range of shift knobs and pedal covers to suit your interior and your driving style. Everything you need to perform a professional quality transmission service, you can find here at Turner.

Engineered in-house, we designed this lightweight, single-mass flywheel to provide more than 10 pounds of weight savings over the factory flywheel. While some ultra-lightweight performance flywheels are manufactured from aluminum, our designers opted for a more driveable experience with steel. The mass provided by steel helps dampen vibrations and noise, delivering near-factory refinement with most of the benefits of a lightweight flywheel: quicker throttle response, improved durability (and longevity), and more effective transfer of power to the wheels.

Modern flywheels are built with additional components that are designed to dampen and minimize vibrations from the engine and transmission. Weight has increased and reliability has decreased. With additional weight more energy is required for it to move. A lightweight flywheel does away with the dual mass design and its additional mass so more energy can be diverted to where it counts most - moving the car. The flywheel and clutch is one of the first areas that engine builders address when making the rotating assembly lighter for race engines. The dampening effect is just not needed on cars that are focused on performance. And with a single-mass flywheel the unreliable DMF design is eliminated.

When it comes to selecting a clutch to pair with a lightweight flywheel, consider the driving you’ll be doing. As a single mass flywheel eliminates the dual-mass dampening of the factory flywheel, to retain the lowest noise, lowest harshness driving experience possible, select a clutch with a dampened disc such as the ACT Heavy Duty. For dedicated track cars, a solid clutch hub is appropriate.

Our recommendations:

Street: ACT Heavy Duty
Track: ACT Xtreme for high torque cars or OE 335is LuK (with 440lbs-ft or less)
Features:

Precision machined from 4140 HT heat treated chromoly steel for exceptional toughness, even wear properties, and durability.
Material quality promotes even wear across the entire friction surface
Heat treated to HRC 28-32, tempered to relieve stress and improve dimensional stability and elevated temperatures
Hardness improves wear characteristics
Black oxide coated for corrosion resistance on non-friction surfaces.
8620 steel pilot bearing pin, case hardened and Precision ground for maximum wear resistance.
Precision balanced to exceed OEM specification (G16 spec to 175g-mm).
SFI 1.1 tested and certified to ensure safe operation under extreme operating conditions
SFI 1.1 specifies minimum material properties and requires a 3rd party lab certification test, spinning the flywheel to 1.5x redline for 1 hour to ensure the flywheel will not burst.
Specifically designed to work with N54 architecture clutches
Step height designed to optimize clamp load and maximize the usable range of clutch wear for a long service life
Performance:

Turner Flywheel 18.6 lbs
10 lbs lighter than the factory BMW flywheel (Stock Flywheel 28.9 lbs)
Faster revs
Improved throttle response
Improved acceleration
Sportier driving experience
Stock flywheel weight - 28.9lbs
Turner single mass flywheel weight = 18.55lbs

Single Mass Flywheel Conversion:

Audible chatter from the transmission after installation is considered normal. As with most single mass flywheels, there is less dampening in the flywheel to reduce "gear noise." This chatter noise may be more present when the transmission fluid temperatures are hotter and may be intensified by other modifications. Most gearboxes will experience some chatter noise at hotter temperatures. Please be advised that this noise will disappear once the clutch pedal is depressed. This symptom may be lessened by adjusting transmission fluid weight, turning off electrical/driveline consumers (A/C, High Beams, ETC.), and by raising the RPM slightly.

Installation:

Flywheel Hardware: For added peace of mind, apply Blue or Orange Loctite when installing factory flywheel bolts that do not come with pre-applied threadlocker.

Aluminum flywheels are much lighter than the stock steel flywheel and that produces better throttle response and more available horsepower to the wheels for faster acceleration. The JB Racing aluminum flywheels are a direct replacement for the stock flywheel and work with stock clutch components for an easy upgrade with very little downside.

Modern flywheels are built with additional components and features that are designed to dampen and minimize vibrations from the engine and transmission. As a result they have become bloated in weight and that means more energy is used up just making the flywheel spin. The weight difference between an aluminum and steel flywheel is huge - sometimes more than 50% less. Without the additional mass, more energy can be diverted to where it counts most - moving the car. The flywheel and clutch is one of the first areas that engine builders address when making the rotating assembly lighter for race engines. The dampening effect is just not needed on cars that are focused on performance.

In addition to releasing more power to the wheels, the lighter flywheel allows the engine to spin more freely, which improves throttle response. Again, the difference is huge as you watch the revs build faster than before. With the engine spinning easier the power band comes up much sooner. The stock steel flywheel feels lazy in comparison. There is a driving adjustment required to get used to how much faster the engine revs but that's not really a downside.

The JB lightweight flywheel is designed to be used with a factory organic clutch - the same clutch kit that you would get from any BMW dealer. This makes replacement clutch components easy to source and inexpensive when compared to specialized racing clutches. By using the factory BMW clutch, JB has also made the whole assembly easy to live with when used on the street. The clutch behaves the same as it originally did - just with better throttle response and more power! The JB flywheel can also be rebuilt with a new clutch contact surface - you don't have to buy a new flywheel.

Aluminum flywheels are considered 'single-mass' flywheels because they do not have the same dampening designs as an original 'dual-mass' flywheel. With a single-mass design more noise and vibration may be noticeable. There are steps you can take to minimize the noise - heavier weight transmission oil and clutch discs with anti-rattle springs (sprung-hub clutch).

This JB flywheel replaces the stock flywheel and can be used with either the stock 228mm or stock 240mm clutch discs. Depending on the model you may have either clutch size in your car but this flywheel is compatible with both. You can install a 240mm clutch as a mild upgrade.

Stock Flywheel Weight = 24-31.0lbs
JB Flywheel Weight = 12.0lbs

The Stage 3+ is for cars making serious levels of boost and torque. If you have upgraded turbos or a single-turbo conversion, or have checked off the list of full bolt-ons, this will be a very capable clutch for you. This clutch is designed to work only with a SPEC single-mass flywheel and avoid the pitfalls of the stock OEM flywheel. The stock dual mass flywheel uses springs and rubber to isolate vibrations from the engine and transmission. However, on high mileage or abused flywheels the rubber can break down and the springs will become weak. A worn dual mass flywheel limits the amount of torque you can put out. It will affect clutch engagement, shifts, and power delivery. In some cases a total flywheel failure can rip apart the flywheel, clutch, and even transmission housing. With the SPEC single-mass flywheel the limitations of the stock flywheel are eliminated. The SPEC flywheel is a single mass design (no internal springs or rubber to fail) and is offered in a steel or aluminum material. The steel will better dampen vibration than the aluminum so it's the better choice for street use. The aluminum will have greater vibration and noise (gearbox rattle) that may not be acceptable for everyone. The clutch in this Stage 3+ kit is a sprung hub design so SPEC has done all they can to minimize the noise and vibration. It's also self-adjusting, like the factory design, and the engagement point can be adjusted. For use with SPEC Billet Flywheel (E-Chassis cars) or (F-Chassis cars)

Tuning your N54/N55 with all of the bolt-on upgrades? Don't allow your clutch or flywheel let you down! The stock clutch is fine for a stock car or just a simple software upgrade. But anything more and it quickly becomes the weak link (especially with drag races or hard launches). The 135i/335i/535i/Z4 35i SPEC Stage 2+ clutch kit is perfect for owners who want a performance clutch that works great with simple bolt-on modifications and will have a minimum of downsides or trade-offs. SPEC has spent considerable time and effort on the 335i models to produce a performance clutch and flywheel package that holds up to track and drag strip demands but is also easy to live with for daily driving. This clutch kit is meant to be used only with a SPEC flywheel.

What was most important to them was offering a kit that has stock-like clutch pedal effort but will grab and hold when the car has been mildly tuned. Full bolt-on upgrades like software, intake, FMIC, E85 mix, or methanol demand a better clutch. The Stage 2+ with the flywheel has a peak torque rating of 545ft-lbs. With the SPEC single-mass flywheel the limitations of the stock flywheel are eliminated. The clutch in this Stage 2+ kit is self-adjusting, like the factory design, and the engagement point can be adjusted. The clutch disc has a sprung hub so it can be used with the single-mass flywheels with near-stock levels of noise, vibration, and refinement. See comments below for characteristics of each.

The Stage 2+ can be configured a few different ways depending on how you intend to use the car -

Use this with the SPEC steel single-mass flywheel.
The clutch will be stiffer than the factory design but it will grab harder and stay connected with far less chance of slippage. The engagement point is changed but most drivers adjust within the first 100 miles. The failure-prone dual-mass flywheel is eliminated and a steel single-mass is used instead. Expect more noise and vibration from the steel but better reliability and slightly better performance.

The clutch will be stiffer than the factory design but it will grab harder and stay connected with far less chance of slippage. The engagement point is changed but most drivers adjust within the first 100 miles. The failure-prone dual-mass flywheel is eliminated and a lightweight aluminum single-mass is used instead. Expect a lot more noise and vibration with aluminum ("gearbox rattle") but better reliability and better performance. The engine will rev a lot faster too.

This clutch is what we recommend if your tuning plans will only be bolt-on upgrades and you want to eliminate the dual-mass flywheel (as a potential failure point). If you plan to go beyond bolt-ons, such as upgrading turbos or single turbo, we strongly recommended using the Stage 3+ clutch. The Stage 2+ offers the best drivability for 90% of the tuned 335s out there but when going beyond bolt-on upgrades it would be best to go to a more advanced clutch stage.

SPEC Clutch is one of the premier clutch and flywheel suppliers to the tuner market. They are often found on the most highly tuned import and domestic vehicles. They are recent players in the German car community with a special focus on the newer turbo BMW models with high torque output. SPEC has been proven time after time to provide superior performance, drivability, and longevity to the most hardcore enthusiasts around the globe.

Full bolt-on upgrades like software, intake, FMIC, E85 mix, or methanol demand a better clutch. The Stage 2+ has a peak torque rating of 545ft-lbs but note that the stock dual-mass flywheel will be a limiting factor to how much torque you can use. There have been cases of high mileage or abused flywheels coming apart with high torque tuned engines. We recommend using a new factory flywheel or jumping to the SPEC single-mass flywheel. The clutch in this Stage 2+ kit is self-adjusting, like the factory design, and the engagement point can be adjusted. The SPEC Stage 3+ clutch has been engineered to stay in step with the above average upgrades done on the 135/335/535/Z4 35i. Everyone knows that adding large amounts of boost and torque will expose weaknesses in other areas - the clutch being near the top of the list. The factory clutch works just fine on a stock 335 or with a mild upgrade like software and intake. But when you get into serious torque levels the stock clutch simply can't handle it. SPEC has focused heavily on the 335 market with 5 stages of upgraded 335 clutches. Stage 2+ is our favorite for mildly-tuned 335s, offering near stock levels of refinement and ample torque capacity (rated for 545ft-lbs). But when going beyond the usual bolt-on upgrades you need to look at your weakest links. The Stage 3+ clutch is rated for 671 ft-lbs. This clutch kit is meant to be used only with a SPEC flywheel (not the stock flywheel).

See comments below for characteristics of each.

The Stage 3+ can be configured a few different ways depending on how you intend to use the car -

SPEC Clutch is one of the premier clutch and flywheel suppliers to the tuner market. They are often found on the most highly tuned import and domestic vehicles.
