Engine bearings ensure that the rotating assemblies spin smoothly ensuring optimal performance and longevity. As the engine ages, these bearings can become worn and thin which allows excess play and increased wear. If the engiine becomes oil-starved, the bearing will become dry, heat up and spin around the shaft for a total failure. Turner carries Genuine BMW and high quality aftermarket and performance options to suit your individual needs.

Replacing the rod bearings requires mechanical knowledge and skill, a clean workspace, and several specialist tools. Our preferred procedure is to leave the engine in the car but remove the front subframe. The engine must be supported from above with an engine brace. Removing the front subframe involves disconnecting the control arms and steering rack and steering column. The oil pan can then be removed and you can access the connecting rods and bearings. Replacing the rod bearings themselves is straightforward but patience and forethought will be extremely helpful. In addition to analyzing the severity of the rod bearing wear, the crankshaft must also be inspected closely for damage. Rod bearings that have been severely worn may have damaged the crankshaft (requiring replacement or machining).

NOTE: These bearings are now sold as SP1534F which features a new and improved silver oxide coating that is stronger and more durable! Designed and manufactured by Clevite to BE Bearing specifications. These bearings replace the factory BMW rod bearings. The original BMW bearings have too little clearance, which leads to premature bearing wear and can cause early engine failure. Furthermore, the factory BMW bearings are made from tin-aluminum which are 5-times harder than a softer lead-copper bearing design. A softer bearing is better for your engine and more tolerant of foreign particles suspended in your oil. These BE Bearings feature a state-of-the-art Clevite Tri-Metal design with the Clevite Tri-Armor(tm) coating. Lead-copper design for greater durability and easy tracking with oil analysis like Blackstone (recommended). Designed with extra clearance to "fix" the BMW rod bearing design flaw. Designed for use with factory 10W60 weight oils. Tri-Armor coated for low conditions during cold start Ideal for start-stop vehicles Applicable for BMW engines S54 Standard size Sold as complete set (6-cylinders) Fits the following BMWs: 2002-2006 E46 BMW M3 S54 2002-2003 Z3 BMW M Coupe, M Roadster S54 2006-2008 Z4 BMW M Coupe, M Roadster S54

BMW S54 VAC Performance Coated Rod Bearing Kit is highly regarded by BMW engine builders worldwide for its superior quality and performance. Ideal for both forced induction and naturally aspirated builds, these coated bearings are designed to be friction-resistant, reducing the risk of thermal breakdowns due to inadequate lubrication. This feature significantly decreases the chances of premature engine failure in street cars and minimizes the risk of spun bearings during high-stress track conditions.

The VAC Performance Coated Rod Bearing Kit is proven to help maintain engine reliability, even in situations with reduced oil pressure.

  • Enhanced Durability: Coated bearings are friction-resistant, reducing the risk of thermal breakdown.
  • Increased Reliability: Helps prevent premature engine failure and spun bearings under stress.
  • Versatile Performance: Suitable for both forced induction and naturally aspirated engine builds.
  • Proven Track Record: Tested by customers to ensure reliable performance even with oil pressure loss.

VAC Tech Notes:

  • Ensure proper tolerance and size checks before installation.
  • Professional installation is recommended due to specialized tools required.
  • Returns are not available on any engine bearings.
