Airflow efficiency and maximizing the potential of the stock intake design were the keys to development for the Dinan N55 intake. Dinan improves on the factory air box system by delivering more cool, dense air. The increased amount of air feeds into dual larger volume airbox complete with a larger cone filter that elicit a slightly more audible and sporty tone over its stock counterpart. Dinan claims 10hp and 15ft-lb torque gain with this kit.

For over 35 years, Dinan has been America's premier tuning company, pioneering advancements in BMW modification while retaining a focus on balanced performance that preserves the original character and driving feel that a BMW offers. When you install a Dinan part on your car, know that it's not only carefully developed and tested, but that Dinan stands behind it with a four year, 50,000-mile warranty. Dinan believes so fully in their “total package” approach that once your car has been fitted with enough of their parts, they celebrate your conversion from stock to Dinan with an exclusive trunk badge, displayed proudly by BMW enthusiasts everywhere. This intake is worth 3 points toward your Dinan badge.

Fitment note: Convertible models require modification to a factory chassis brace. Detailed instructions are included.

Following in the footsteps of its big brother on the B58 engine, the 4 cylinder intake takes the same path to success. Improve upon the factory design by increasing flow via a larger airbox and filter element thereby improving throttle response and lessening the strain on the turbocharger for maximum efficiency. While box and filter enlargement and redesign is a major factor in ultimately producing a more potent intake they are not the only variables in creating a more efficient design either. The devil is in the details which is where Dinan thrives. Coupled with maintaining Dinan's standard practice of utilizing a sealed system to ensure as much cold, outside air as possible is employed Dinan engineers focused their attention on the intake pipe itself where numerous improvements could be made. In factory configuration, the intake tube comes complete with baffling and a small helmholtz chamber to reduce unwanted sound. As a byproduct, these features also cause a more turbulent air flow path which robs the factory system of potential power. These 2 specific details are diametrically opposed to our intended markets desires so the removal of these features was paramount. Through numerous iterations, a carbon fiber intake tube was developed that eliminated flow disruptions and allowed the natural sound of an unimpeded intake tract to sing. All told this thorough methodology of design allows the Dinan carbon fiber cold air intake for the B46/B48 engine to elicit gains of 6 HP and 6 TRQ at 5000 RPM on a completely stock vehicle. An impressive feat on today's turbocharged engines.

Not to be outdone by the performance side of the equation the B46/B48 intake also is completely made up of carbon fiber unlike 4 cylinder intakes of the past where a mix of materials was used. Not only is the intake completely carbon construction but the quality of the material has been improved over previous generations as well. While looks are surely important, and this piece has that department covered in spades, the improved construction and coating also guarantee that the appearance of the engine bay with the Dinan intake will not be marred over time. Built to present well, perform well, and last the duration, the Dinan B46/B48 carbon fiber cold air intake is a modification that is a must for any high-performance build.

Benefits of the Dinan Carbon Fiber High Flow Air Intake for the F22/F23 230i, F30/F31/F34 330i, and F32/F33/F36 430i:

More Power: +6 HP & +6 lb-ft of torque at 5000 RPM
Sportier Sound
Improved throttle response
Larger volume air box (30% larger than stock) that completely seals
34% increase in filter area (stock: 76.3in², Dinan: 102.1in²)
Optimized carbon fiber intake tube
Free flowing injection molded Air Mass Meter housing (over 20% larger than stock)
Quick and easy installation

When modifying the car and increasing boost, installing an upgraded intercooler is essential to keep the engine computer from restraining boost as temperatures climb. The stock air-air intercooler is quickly overcome with heat and can't keep the intake air cool enough. If it's too hot the engine computer will reduce power to safer levels. This Dinan intercooler is a dual-core air-air design with an astounding 240% more surface area than the factory intercooler. The temperature at boost is 60% cooler at 6,250 RPM with the Dinan Dual Core compared to stock. Even heat soak at low speeds is reduced, making this a worthwhile addition even for stock or mildly tuned engines. Professional installation is strongly recommended as bumper removal is required and several pieces in the front end need to be cut and trimmed. The factory charge piping in and out of the intercooler is re-used.
