In BMW's with the N55, the intake system is partially limited. The bottom portion is lightweight and great for feeding cold air to the intake, but the top portion is excessively restrictive. Working with some of the original equipment, this intake continues to utilize the bottom portion of OE ducting and heat shielding, but replaces the top with new high flow ducting and a performance filter. Extensive testing showed up to a 10+ HP gain to the wheels and allows for quicker turbo spool speed. Plus, this design gives you a great sound improvement, letting you hear both the intake and turbo spooling!

The diverter valve is responsible for redirecting boost away from the intake when it's not needed. Other cars use a blow-off valve to vent the pressurized air into the atmosphere (the whoosh sound commonly heard on turbo engines) but BMW and other makers use a diverter valve to keep the air circulating through the intake for emissions purposes. A failing diverter valve will lead to a boost leak as turbocharged air leaks past the seals instead of going into the engine when you want it. This is a minor issue on stock engines but a bigger issue on tuned or heavily modded engines (those will use an aluminum diverter valve instead of the stock plastic). The factory diverter valve is plastic which is prone to cracking and electric which will fail without warning. This is a direct replacement diverter valve for cars with the N55 and S63 (X5M/X6M) engines.

N55 takes 1 diverter valve.
S63 takes 2 diverter valves (1 per turbo).

They COMPLETELY do away with the entire factory intake tract, including the accordion hose, the turbo muffler, and all of the restrictive bends. They COMPLETELY do away with the entire factory intake tract, including the accordion hose, the turbo muffler, and all of the restrictive bends. They then replaced it with a smooth radius 2.5"-4" Silicone intake pipe with wire impregnated to ensure strength and longevity. This is coupled with their billet intake connection for an OEM-like fit, and finish. This hose is paired with VTT's 4" high-flow cotton pre-oiled cone filters. Made from 100% carbon, not a single layer is wrapped over plastic. The filters themselves are made with a heat-resistant silicone base, a high-flowing cotton weave element with a pre-oiled design to catch contaminates but allow free flow. Features: NOTE: The Cone filter intake kit is legal for RACING USE ONLY in California. Always follow all local emissions rules.
