Catback Exhaust systems are designed to completely replace everything from your cats all the way back to your exhaust tips. Traditionally, if you are planning on upgrading your entire exhaust system, you will also need headers and downpipes.
This axle-back exhaust system is manufactured entirely from titanium. This makes this system ideal for cutting weight while being structurally stronger than the OE exhaust system. The engineers at Akrapovic have retained the dual mode exhaust flap control from the original system. This allows the vehicle to have a more civilized, but deeper than stock sound at low speed. However, at higher RPM (or when selecting the S mode on the gearshift) the muffler is bypassed, creating a deep and sporty sound much more in keeping with the personality of the car. The included exhaust pipe tips are made completely from titanium OR a carbon fiber/titanium composite to add a high-end, refined style. Performance has not been left out of the design. The system dramatically reduces backpressure and is an excellent starting point for further engine tuning or turbo modifications. Even when installed on an otherwise stock vehicle a gain of 7.3 horsepower and 17.4 Nm/12.8 lbs-ft of torque are achieved. Furthermore, a weight reduction of 3.0 kg/6.6 lbs. is realized. The OEM catalysts are retained, so no reflashing of the ECU is required and the check engine light will not be triggered. This system is the result of countless hours of R&D to obtain the perfect combination of performance and sound. Constructed of 100% 304 TIG welded stainless steel, Active Autowerke has created a modular exhaust system that will provide enough flow to support power levels way above the stock S55. The stock S55 Midpipe is a dual-pipe system from each turbo that leads to the rear muffler. The resulting sound is far from pleasant, and without any real scavenging effect the turbo lag is fairly pronounced. By converting to a single 3.5" pipe directly after the downpipes, AA's system promotes exhaust scavenging along with higher exhaust velocity to produce a quicker spool, more power, and a much smoother exhaust note.
