A leaking gasket can cause headaches down the road, usually when you least expect it. The N52 engine can suffer a particularly troublesome leak around the oil filter housing gasket. Generally seen as something to keep an eye on, this is not something that should be put off. The upgraded Bavarian Autosport gasket is made from a DuPont Viton rubber that has a higher temperature and chemical resistance than the stock gasket material. It's no secret that BMW turbo motors can suffer from oil control problems causing oil to blow through and coat the intercooler and charge piping, gunking up intake valves and the VANOS system, lowering the effective octane, and generally degrading engine performance. The higher your boost levels the more apparent these problems become. The solution to this problem has finally arrived. The BMS oil catch can. While there are other catch cans on the market they all fall short in various areas. Some are mounted on the hot/turbo side of the motor preventing proper vapor condensation. Others utilize hoses that are too small and runs that are too long to allow proper PCV ventilation causing internal motor/ring sealing issues. Some have insufficient or no internal baffle system while others have internal baffles systems that are too restrictive. Vacuum Side The BMS vacuum side N54 OCC works in conjunction with the world-famous boost side N54 oil catch can to prevent engine oil and PCV gunk from coating your intake valves and hurting engine efficiency under engine vacuum operation. Our boost side OCC separates oil traveling through the PCV while the engine is operating under boost pressure (e.g. heavy throttle) and our vacuum side OCC separates oil traveling through the PCV while the engine is operating under vacuum (idle and low throttle). When used together they provide the ultimate protection keeping oil from coating your intake ports and valves during all phases of engine operation! The unique PCV adapter design does not require you to permanently cap/plug your PCV holes! Includes a high performance check valve that attaches directly to the vacuum source eliminating boost leaks within the system and also includes quick connect fittings and 3/8” hose for quick, easy, and clean installation. BMW's B58 engine has been very successful and has proved to be a reliable powerplant that is highly capable of producing some crazy power figures. Unfortunately, in true BMW fashion, the B58 engine does have a few problems that can become serious issues if not addressed quickly. One of these issues is the oil filter housing cracking and leaking engine oil and/or coolant. BMW chose to construct the oil filter housing out of plastic and the housing tends to split if the cap is tightened too tight or even just over time as the plastic becomes brittle from numerous heat cycles. Another common failure point is the multiple gaskets that seal the housing to the engine block and between the housing and the engine oil cooler. when these seals fail, you will notice coolant and/or oil loss, or even the mixing of engine oil with coolant. There is also the possibility of your oil filter collapsing inside of the filter housing and preventing proper oil filtration and flow, sometimes clogging the small oil channels in your filter housing as the oil filter begins to fall apart. Though this is more common with vehicles that see extended oil change intervals, such as 12K+ mile oil changes, we have seen some failures as soon as 5,000 miles after an oil change! Whatever the cause may be, the solution is almost always the same, replacement of the whole oil filter housing. We have put together a kit including the basic components needed to replace your oil filter housing and get your BMW back on the road!
