Turner Motorsport BMW Chassis Reinforcement Kits & Parts

Made in the USAAs much of an "Ultimate Driving Machine" it is, many BMW models unfortunately suffer from weak points in the chassis. Over the years we have uncovered many weak or failure-prone areas in the chassis and have developed our own reinforcing solutions for them. And we continue to be the leading experts on BMW chassis reinforcing. Failures can come from a number, or combination, of causes: improper maintenance, age and mileage, poor design, environmental factors, poor repair work, and over-stressing modifications. The longer you let your car go without repairing or reinforcing these areas, the closer it gets to crumbling apart. Our chassis reinforcement kits are designed to first identify potential weak points and then strengthen and reinforce the existing design.

Most of our kits are not labor intensive although welding is usually required. If you suspect your chassis may have structural problems we recommend taking it to a well-known bodyshop or restoration shop. (find out who your local BMW dealer uses - we sell many of our kits to dealer-authorized repair shops). Making the preventative fix simple and effective is better than a long and complicated repair after the failure. Our kits are not usually used for fixing existing damage (only your body shop can determine the correct course of action). But our kits have been proven under extreme conditions on racetracks around the world to prevent many of the costly - and dangerous - chassis problems.

Updated in 2020 to provide additional reinforcement! The E46 rear driveline and suspension are very similar to that of the E36. An unfortunate side effect of this is that the E46 also shares some of the same problems as the E36. One of these problems is the rear mounting points for the subframe, which can rip out from their spots in the sheet metal. This happens because the rear differential transmits the torsional load from the engine through the subframe, then into the chassis. This constant loading and unloading weakens the sheet metal and causes it to fatigue and separate from the chassis. BMW tried to fix this problem in the E46 by placing a cross member on the front two mounting points of the subframe. This cross member keeps the front mounting points from having problems by placing the bushing and the stud in double-sheer, thus reducing the twisting action on the sheet metal. The unfortunate side effect of this is that the load from the front of the subframe now gets transmitted to the left rear of the subframe. This is where we have seen many failures of the chassis on low mileage street cars and race cars. BMW has also tried to prevent the issue by injecting foam into the open space between the underside of the chassis and the top of the trunk. This seems to work but that does not address the issues of the spot welds failing on the sheetmetal. It can also make any additional work there harder and almost impossible to weld against. Our reinforcement kit has proven over and over again to be effective and the easiest to work with in the long run.

This product reinforces the chassis sheet metal at the subframe mounting points. We do this by thickening the metal and distributing the load over a larger area. This kit will save time when repairing the chassis, and is also strongly recommended as a preventative maintenance item.

Rear Axle Carrier Panel (RACP) failure is a well-documented issue that plagues all BMW E46 models. Due to thin sheet metal mounting, the forces applied during cornering, acceleration, and braking create stress fractures in the carrier panel, resulting in large cracks or breaks that risk the structural integrity of your chassis. To fix this issue, many enthusiasts opt to install weld-in reinforcement plates on the underside of the RACP. While this remedies the formation of additional stress cracks and adds rigidity to failure-prone areas, it does not prevent the entire carrier panel from flexing during high-performance driving.

Our all-new Rear Subframe Reinforcement Brace is engineered to add structure to the E46's rear chassis under high-stress conditions, eliminating the common weak points in the RACP while providing the confidence you need for performance driving. Don't let chassis flex limit your car’s potential—upgrade your E46 with the Turner Motorsport Rear Subframe Reinforcement Brace today!

How It Works:

During performance driving, the Rear Axle Carrier Panel (RACP) must react the forces of longitudinal and lateral accelerations. During forward acceleration, the differential transmits torque through the subframe to the RACP, forcing the rearmost subframe mounting points downward. This downward movement flexes the carrier panel, reducing its ability to handle torque efficiently. By linking the rearmost subframe mounting points to the rear shock towers, downward flex is restricted, resulting in improved torque transfer and stability. Alternatively, high-grip cornering generates lateral acceleration (side-to-side) forces across the RACP. Similar to how a rear strut brace functions, connecting the rear shock towers helps to counteract these forces. Adding the subframe to this connection further reduces lateral loads, eliminating side-to-side flex and enhancing overall stability.

Features & Design:

Four-Point Triangulated Structure: Links the rearmost subframe mounting locations to both rear strut towers for superior load distribution. Enhanced Stability: Reduces lateral and longitudinal RACP flex during acceleration, braking, and cornering. Improved Torque Transfer: Minimizes downward flex of the RACP, ensuring efficient power delivery for enhanced driveability. High-Performance Durability: Heavy-duty steel tube construction ensures lasting support during spirited driving, track use, and for vehicles with increased power output. Blue Powdercoat Finish: Offers fantastic corrosion resistance, protection from scuffs and scratches, and a stylish appearance that is sure to complement your performance-centric E46. Underside Reinforcement Compatibility: Designed to work seamlessly alongside our underside RACP reinforcement plates (TDR4675412, T#91). Kit Includes:

Rear Subframe Brace Extended-Length Drill Bit (1/4", 12" Overall Length) High-Speed Drill Bit (12.5mm, 152mm Overall Length) Drill Bit Guide Extended Subframe Bolts Zinc-Plated Steel Hex Nut (2) Installation & Support:

Made in the USA Help preserve the structural integrity of your BMW E82 1-series, or E90, E91, E92, or E93 3-series with these weld-in strut tower reinforcement plates. Deformation of the front upper strut tower has been common problem, especially in race-prepped cars, cars with lowered suspensions, any car that sees track use, or BMWs driven on rough roads. The strut tower deforms from suspension bottoming out, forces generated by the spring/shock assembly, and that forced concentrated in a relatively small area on the strut tower. The strut tower will exhibit deforming by cracking (especially around the stud holes), or "mushrooming" where the tower takes on a dome-shaped top instead of being flat. By thickening the sheetmetal material of the tower, you are making it stronger and more robust to prevent deformation. While the E82 and E9x cars are newer and better made than the previous E36 and E46 cars, any suspension modification or track use will make the new cars more susceptible to this problem.

These are mounted on the underside of the strut tower and need to be welded into place.

Here at Turner Motorsport we love our classic Bmw's and are more excited than ever to focus on upgrades for the enthusiasts such as ourselves. With the prices of E36s going up and the unobtainable M3 LTW being just that, unobtainable, we decided to focus on what we have and what everyone else is able to get. It seems by now all of the E36's have been fitted with upgraded suspensions and sway bars which we have a large selection of. We found a missing part to our mission critical performance E36 project and that is the X-brace. Since the LTW is fitted with a factory X-Brace the engineers here at Turner decided to take it a few steps further. Starting with idea of improving structure and handling on the factory x-brace we thought "how could we make it better?” Before we knew it we had full 6061-T6 billet aluminum that would surpass the factory X-Brace soo much that they shouldn't even be classified on the same spectrum.

Our Turner X-Brace starts off with a solid block of 6061-T6 billet aluminum that is machined to precise tolerances, utilizing both factory mounting locations and efficiency. The brace then gets drilled and tapped to fit the modular mounting brackets perfectly before being anodized in the beautiful Turner blue. To finish off the fine details the X-Brace is assembled with zinc-plated hardware for superior corrosion resistance for time to come.

Made in the USA E36 cars with swaybar upgrades will develop cracks where the swaybar bushing mounts to the subframe. The problem becomes worse for cars that are tracked or drifted. Because the swaybar tab is un-reinforced from the factory, you can end up with flexing and twisting which will eventually weaken the welds and snap the tab from the subframe. By welding in this reinforcement you can prevent the mount from twisting. This will go a long way towards preventing a bothersome repair down the road.

The E46 is by no means a very old car. But more and more E46s are seeing track use or being converted to all-out track cars. And the odometers aren't rolling backwards. With age, mileage, and hard use the chassis will develop weak points that threaten the overall integrity of the car. When suspension points and subframes start to rip from the car, it puts the driver and anyone else at a serious safety risk. Not to mention the obvious effects on the performance of the car. TMS has developed reinforcements for the most-common weak points in the E46 chassis. With these kits in place you can be sure that your car spends less time on a body rack and more time on the race track. Included in this package are all of the reinforcements we developed for the E46:
