Sway bars transmit cornering forces from the outside wheels to the inside wheels, helping to keep the vehicle flat during cornering. This, in turn, reduces body roll and improves the driver's cornering confidence. OEM rubber sway bar bushings are designed with comfort in mind, allowing the sway bar to articulate while permitting additional movement, leading to less-than-ideal bar retention and causes unnecessary body roll.

Powerflex polyurethane sway bar bushings are firmer than factory rubber bushings, reducing body roll and keeping sway bars in check. Polyurethane bushings won't slop around like OEM bushings, allowing sway bars to function at their fullest potential.

Control arm bushings play a key role in connecting the wheels to the chassis of the vehicle. Tasked with keeping suspension geometry in check while absorbing noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) factory rubber bushings were engineered to provide a balance of comfort and control. As a factory bushing ages, it becomes brittle and begins to harden. When this happens the bushing will actually shrink and allow excess play in the suspension joint. This is typically felt by a sudden jerk forward after the car comes to a stop and is a leading cause of "sloppy" or "loose" suspension feel. By replacing the bushing with a full polyurethane unit or using a bushing insert, this play is eliminated since the suspension joint is being supported by a much stiffer material that will not harden or shrink over time. Additionally, the inherent stiffness of the urethane material translates body forces much more directly. This means steering inputs from the driver are effectively transferred to the wheels and vital road information is transmitted properly from the wheels to the driver.

Powerflex street bushings are ideal for street driven vehicles and those that see occasional autocross or track time. Need bushings for a dedicated track car? Powerflex Black Series bushings are the ultimate in track and race bushings. Featuring 95A durometer polyurethane, Black Series bushings are 25% stiffer than street bushings. Engineered to perform, Powerflex performance polyurethane control arm bushings offer a supreme level of control, while still providing enough comfort for the street, with advanced polyurethane that reduces NVH that often accompanies lesser bushings. Expect improved steering feel, turn in, more responsive handling and overall improved chassis composure with Powerflex performance polyurethane control arm bushings.

For a BMW X3 (2003-2010), if you're looking for front anti-roll bar bushings with a 22.5mm diameter, one well-regarded aftermarket option is Powerflex. Powerflex specializes in high-quality polyurethane bushings, which are more durable than traditional rubber bushings. These bushings help improve handling by reducing unwanted flex in the suspension components.

Here’s what you should consider when getting Powerflex bushings for your BMW X3:

  1. Material: Powerflex bushings are made from polyurethane, which offers better resistance to wear, deformation, and harsh conditions compared to OEM rubber.

  2. Fitment: Ensure that the 22.5mm size matches the diameter of your front anti-roll bar for your specific BMW X3 variant. This size typically fits certain versions of the 2003-2010 X3 models, but it’s always good to double-check with your specific vehicle's specifications.

  3. Improved Handling: Replacing your worn-out bushings with Powerflex ones can result in sharper handling and less body roll, especially during cornering.

These bushings are typically sold as a kit with two bushings (one for each side of the anti-roll bar), and installation may require some mechanical experience or a professional.

Differentials serve the key purpose of transmitting power from the driveshaft to the axles. Factory rubber bushings absorb some of this power to allow for cushy, comfortable acceleration, at the expense of performance. Many OEM differential bushings are fast-wearing and failure-prone, resulting in driveline slop and thunks when shifting or going over bumps. Your E36 Evo M3 will improve in: Improved Handling and Stability - Upgrading to an aftermarket rear differential front mount bushing can do wonders for your car's handling and stability. These bushings are designed with performance in mind, reducing unwanted movement of the differential. Reduced Wheel Hop - Wheel hop can be a drag, both figuratively and literally. An upgraded front mount bushing helps minimize wheel hop, especially during hard acceleration or aggressive driving. Say goodbye to that unsettling bounce and hello to smoother power delivery. Powerflex polyurethane differential bushings are firmer than OEM rubber bushings, eliminating associated driveline slop and allowing for the crisp application of power to the ground, resulting in better throttle response and control. Powerflex is the number one selling suspension bushing manufacturer in Europe. Their experience with polyurethane bushing material and state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques allows them to produce premium performance bushings, made to exact-fit standards. Powerflex performance polyurethane bushings are built to last longer than OEM rubber bushings while improving performance and allowing for a more engaging driving experience. • Typically made from rubber, which provides a comfortable ride. However, many enthusiasts opt for polyurethane bushings due to their superior durability and performance benefits. Polyurethane reduces flex, leading to improved handling and responsiveness.
  3. Enhanced Handling:

    • Worn or degraded bushings can result in loose steering, uneven tire wear, and compromised handling. Replacing these bushings restores the original driving dynamics of the 1502-2002, providing a more connected and stable driving experience.
  4. Compatibility:

    • Specifically designed for the BMW 1502-2002 models, these bushings ensure a precise fit and optimal performance for these classic vehicles, allowing owners to maintain their distinctive driving characteristics.
  5. Upgrade Potential:

    • Many drivers choose to upgrade to polyurethane bushings, which offer increased stiffness and resistance to wear, enhancing the vehicle's handling and reducing the need for frequent replacements.
  6. Installation Considerations:

    • Installing new outer bushings typically requires removing the control arm from the suspension system. While it can be a DIY project for experienced mechanics, professional installation is recommended to ensure proper alignment and performance.

Benefits of Replacement or Upgrade:

  • Restored Steering Accuracy: New bushings improve steering feel and response, allowing for more precise handling.
  • Improved Ride Comfort: Fresh bushings absorb road imperfections better, resulting in a smoother driving experience.
  • Durability and Longevity: Upgrading to polyurethane provides longer-lasting performance, reducing the frequency of maintenance.

In summary, the Front Lower Arm Outer Bushing for the BMW 1502-2002 is essential for maintaining the vehicle's suspension integrity and driving characteristics. Whether replacing worn-out bushings or upgrading to polyurethane, ensuring these components are in good condition is vital for optimal performance and comfort in these classic BMWs.

Factory bushings are more than adequate for street driving on the E46 M3. However, once the miles start to pile up, the bushings are meant to be replaced. Common side effects of worn factory FCABs include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Steering wheel shutter when brakes are applied
  • Wheel (and steering wheel) shimmy
  • Mysterious and irregular tire wear
  • "Overboosted" steering feel (very light steering)

Replacing with new factory bushings will return the factory feel. These urethane core bushings, however, offer something MORE. These bushings are designed to deliver performance that surpasses the stock E46 M3 bushing, while still allowing them to be used in everyday driving scenarios on public roads.

With the numerous delrin/urethane/hybrid replacement bushings in the market, we wanted to offer bushings that were not only effective, but simple. No clips, no washers, no multiple sleeves, and no "race parts in street cars". They have an aluminum outer sleeve with a replaceable, compliant urethane core that is serviceable and rebuildable. These urethane inserts prevent unwanted control arm deflection, while allowing noise/vibration/harshness (NVH) isolation -- a must on any bushing being used on a street driven car. And because of their compliance they remain very comfortable for daily use. But because they are a heavier-duty design than stock, these eliminate steering shimmy and wander, especially with the addition of big brake upgrades. They maintain BMW's original suspension geometry, and give your M3 a directly "connected" feeling with the front end of the vehicle. Perhaps best of all, these bushings are easy to install and are designed for longevity. Professional installation on suspension components is always recommended.

Poweflex is a leading manufacturer of aftermarket suspension bushings.
