These kits provide a ride that glides over typical bumps and dips in the road, all without the typical hard rattle and harsh feel of usual coilovers, and turn in tight and maintain tire grip and traction in corners significantly better than stock suspension ever could. The Dual Flow Valve works by controlling shock fluid flow based on resistance and impact velocity. This is controlled in both compression and rebound, giving the quick shock operation that helps maintain traction. At low shaft travel speeds, oil flows mostly through the shaft jet bleed. At higher shaft speeds, oil flows mostly through the compression/rebound ports in the piston. At very high shaft speeds, or during sudden accelerations from potholes or large bumps in the road, oil can then escape through the ports in the DFV, absorbing a large amount of energy that would otherwise throw off the balance and control of the vehicle and keeping the tire planted firmly on the ground. With all three compression and rebound ports working together according to pressure and shaft speed, the result is the notorious premium suspension feel that only Ohlins can offer.
In addition to managing the rebound and compression control, coilovers must also properly address heat changes in the shock oil. As the shock is pushed harder and longer, the oil quickly heats up due to friction and compression, and the oils flow characteristics change. The hotter the oil is, the easier it is for it to travel through ports and valves. To prevent this typical fade in control, Ohlins has implemented a temperature controlled needle bleed valve system that will expand as temperatures rise, slowly increasing restriction in the fluids flow through the valve gap. When looking to dial in your steering geometry and alignment for reduced tire where and/or better track handling, the stock suspension is quite limited. To fix this, you can install Camber/Caster plates such as these plates from IRP. Camber/Caster plates allow for adjustment of the top position of the shock's mounting position. These slight adjustments have a huge impact on the stance of the of the wheel when driving straight down the road and when turning into a corner. With simple adjustments, you can increase the grip of the tires in hard turns, improve tread life, or even just make an alignment correction for a vehicle with a lowered ride height.

For the driver that demands the best out of their vehicle. The Dinan Adjustable Coil-Over Suspension was bred in the race lab but refined on the street for maximum versatility. No matter the environment, the traction that is awarded to the vehicle from the improved suspension will inspire newfound confidence when running at higher speeds. From the substantial reduction in body roll as well as reduction of dive under braking and squat under acceleration, Dinan guarantees you superior handling, performance, and comfort.
Dinan's design retains the superb factory electronic shocks but swaps the springs to a more aggressive, performance enhancing formula and implements threaded collars that allow the user to change the ride height themselves. While shorter, stiffer springs are commonplace in aftermarket suspensions and are a key element in reduction of body roll it is not a one size fits all approach. In the case of the G87 M2 where the vehicle has a penchant for oversteer, stiffening the rear springs would exacerbate the problem of the rear losing traction before the front when the platform is pushed to the limit. Dinan instead has opted to soften the rear spring rate as well as switch from the factory progressive rate rear to a dual rate spring setup. The combination increases predictability and compliancy, and in turn, provides better rear grip/road holding for a vehicle that needs both. The result is a sleek lowered stance that provides improved handling to go along with its stunning visual appearance. The springs combined with progressive bump stops and other components increase travel that allow the car to be lowered up to 1-1/8" in the front and over 2" inches in the rear. However, to retain the ride quality synonymous with Dinan suspension kits the recommended drop of 3/4" in front and rear is advised. For suspension connoisseurs, or those that are just simply very particular, suspension packers are included to fine-tune handling and comfort by changing the clearance of the progressive bump-stops --- something no respectable race car is without.
Contrary to the market norm, the Dinan G87 M2 kit is not a direct carryover from the G8x M3/M4 but a package independently developed to eke the most out of the M2 and the nuances that differ it from its larger siblings. The rear spring rates in particular on the smaller coupe are far more aggressive than those on the M3/M4 from the factory. This produces a stiffer, more uncomfortable ride than most are fond of beyond the racetrack. While utilizing the same rear springs as the Dinan M3/M4 kit is possible the rates would be substantially softer resulting in reduced stability in cornering and an increase in body roll. Instead, Dinan M2 rear springs are 13% softer than factory but still 10% stiffer than what the M3/M4 kit would offer so a more compliant and comfortable ride can be achieved while also retaining its sporty character and abilities.
NOTE: Due to the extensive lowering possible and the increased suspension travel, the installer must carefully evaluate tire clearance under all situations. Safety will be compromised if all precautions are not taken. Dinan is not responsible for any property damage or injury.
