The oil filter pedestal, often prone to failure due to its plastic construction, can be a source of oil leaks in your BMW engine. This is the engine oil heat exchanger which is located behind the oil filter housing of the M57 engine. When this part fails it can cause oil contamination in the cooling system or worse.
