BMW Driveshafts

Got a vibration through the driveline on your BMW? Did you know that the u-joints are not replaceable on a factory driveshaft? Our remanufactured driveshafts allow for future replacement of u-joints and are rebuilt to a higher specification than the factory driveshaft. We start with OEM u-joints and then machine yokes onto the driveshaft to allow for future u-joint replacement. All bushings, universal joints, center bearings are replaced with new hardware (flex discs are not included but available separately). The whole unit is then dynamically balanced on a precision Axiline Balancer.

The stock center support bearing carrier is designed to reduce NVH to the cabin by loosely holding the center bearing with a flimsy rubber bushing. During launches and shifts, the driveshaft is allowed to travel off-center, decreasing throttle response and causing oscillations through the drivetrain. As they age, the carrier rubber sags and dry rots, ruining the driveshaft alignment. Fix or prevent this common issue with JXB Performance's Driveshaft Center Support Bearing Upgrade! JXB utilizes a simple but extremely effective 2-piece design which allows you to install this upgrade and replace bushings with ease. The stock center support carrier is simply cut away, allowing the JXB bushings to "clamp" down on the driveshaft bearing and hold the driveshaft securely in place, maintaining driveshaft alignment at all times.

The stock center support bearing carrier is engineered to minimize noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) in the cabin by loosely securing the center bearing with a soft rubber bushing. However, this design allows the driveshaft to move off-center during launches and shifts, reducing throttle response and causing drivetrain oscillations. Over time, the rubber bushing can sag or dry rot, leading to misalignment of the driveshaft.

Prevent or fix this common problem with JXB Performance's Driveshaft Center Support Bearing Upgrade! This upgrade features a simple yet highly effective 2-piece design that makes installation and bushing replacement effortless. The stock carrier is cut away, and the JXB bushings securely "clamp" the driveshaft bearing in place, ensuring constant driveshaft alignment.

The Street bushing option from JXB is the most popular choice, offering a significant improvement over the stock design while keeping NVH levels minimal.

Note: Some light NVH, such as a soft hum, may occur at certain speeds. However, with a modified exhaust or open windows, it’s unlikely to be noticeable.

Installation is straightforward and doesn’t require removing the driveshaft. The 2-piece design clamps directly onto the OEM bearing, though removing the old carrier will require a cutting tool.

Two bushing options are available for this kit, Street and Track, both of which are many times better than the stock bushings: The street bushings absorb most of the NVH from the drivetrain. Some light NVH is possible at some speeds in the form of a soft hum. (With a modified exhaust or windows down, you’ll probably never hear it) The track bushings are for those who want no-compromise drivetrain performance. These may create a substantial amount of cabin noise. Not sure which is for you? Try them both, they’re interchangeable! Installation does not require the removal of the driveshaft. The 2-part design clamps around the OEM bearing. The old carrier must be removed, so a cutting tool is required. Looking for replacement or additional bushings? This replacement flex disc (aka: the guibo) is a vibration dampener mounted on the back of the transmission which connects to the driveshaft. When it has worn, it produces a terrible vibration throughout the car. It's especially noticeable at low speeds and when starting from a standstill. Oil leaking from the back of the transmission will significantly reduce its life. From 1974 to 2019, Bavarian Autosport was one of the premier vendors for BMW and MINI auto parts. We are happy to preserve the Bav Auto legacy by continuing to carry their high-quality products into the future. All Bav Auto parts will remain unchanged in design and sourced from the same OEM suppliers to ensure long-lasting reliability. We trust these parts, accessories, and upgrades so confidently that we back every Bavarian Autosport branded component with a 2-year warranty.

It has much more rubber in between the bolt holes which makes it last longer. This is 5mm thicker than the stock E30 flex disc so adjustment of the 2-piece driveshaft may be required. The original flex disc bolts can be re-used.

The stock center support bearing carrier utilizes an extremely thin layer of rubber to secure the driveshaft, allowing for minimal movement to effectively insulate the cabin from noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH). However, this design is less effective at maintaining proper bearing alignment under heavy loads. Over time, it allows the bearing to gradually sag, disrupting the driveshaft alignment and introducing play in the driveline during gear shifts and throttle application. The original equipment manufacturer (OEM) rubber bushing has a tendency to sag, become brittle, and eventually deteriorate, resulting in dry rot and cracking. Even in well-maintained vehicles, the stock bushing can develop cracks in as little as 5-10 years. When the bushing loses its integrity, it can lead to pronounced vibrations, clunking noises, and increased stress on the bearing. Adding to the challenge, the stock carrier is permanently molded onto the center support bearing, making replacement a difficult task that typically necessitates specialized tools.

Located between the transmission and driveshaft, the flex disc (also guibo) is a flexible rubber drive coupling that joins driveline components to reduce vibration, while allowing a limited range of flexibility. Joint rubber deteriorates over time from torque stress and heat hardening. A failed joint is a common cause of driveline noise and vibration. This joint should be inspected during normal maintenance for signs of heat cracking and tears in the rubber. Failed joints should be replaced before they cause additional damage and expense or disable the vehicle. BMW 125mm Flex Disc - 6 Holes (Hole Diameter: 96mm) Meyle is a German brand in business since 1958 and all of their products are TUV approved and meet or exceed ISO standards. Heavy Duty components are designed to provide significantly long lifespans than other aftermarket and stock OE components. Each part includes a 4 year warranty.

The original center support bearing carrier from the factory employs a thin layer of rubber to secure the driveshaft, minimizing movement to reduce noise and vibrations in the vehicle's cabin. However, this design struggles to maintain the bearing's alignment under load, leading to gradual sagging and misalignment of the driveshaft. This, in turn, results in play during gear shifts and throttle application. Even in well-maintained vehicles, the initial rubber bushing can deteriorate and turn brittle, often developing cracks within 5-10 years. When this deterioration occurs, it can lead to heightened vibrations, clunking noises, and increased stress on the bearing. Additionally, replacing the stock carrier is a challenging task because it is permanently connected to the center support bearing, necessitating specialized tools for replacement.

See T#4799658 for replacement street bushings and T#4799659 for replacement track bushings.

This Meyle replacement flex disc (aka: the guibo) is a vibration dampener mounted on the back of the transmission which connects to the driveshaft. When it has worn, it produces a terrible vibration throughout the car. It's especially noticeable at low speeds and when starting from a standstill. Oil leaking from the back of the transmission will significantly reduce its life.

This can also be used as an upgrade on the E30 M3. It has much more rubber in between the bolt holes which makes it last longer. This is 5mm thicker than the stock E30 flex disc so adjustment of the 2-piece driveshaft may be required. The original flex disc bolts can be re-used.

Applications:
1995-1999 E36 M3 manual & auto transmission
2001-2006 E46 M3, M3 CSL manual and SMG transmission
1991-1995 E34 M5 3.6 and 3.8 manual transmission
1998-2002 Z3 M Roadster, M Coupe - S52 and S54 engine manual & Auto transmission
2006-current E85 Z4 M Roadster, E86 M Coupe manual transmission

Located between the transmission and driveshaft, the giubo (also guibo) joint is a flexible rubber drive coupling that joins driveline components to reduce vibration, while allowing a limited range of flexibility.

This is a 1-piece conversion for the BMW E36 platform. The shaft is made from 3" x .083" DOM tube with a 108mm CV to mount to the differential, which will eliminate any possible pinion angle issues. This shaft weighs 25lbs and since there is no hanger bearing, it will make the car seem more athletic and give it a smoother power transfer. We would have liked to offer an aluminum version, but for strength, it would have to be made in 3.5" diameter which is too large to fit without a clearance issue. We do offer a Carbon Fiber version also, part number BMWSH2-CV-C. This shaft is now being balanced on a new 9500RPM balancer to ensure a perfectly balanced shaft. Comes complete with adapter plates to mount up to the transmission and differential flanges and all necessary hardware for installation.

Please Note: The E36 M3 uses either a 4-bolt or 6-bolt rear differential flange. This driveshaft is for the 6-bolt rear differential ONLY. If your vehicle has a 4-bolt rear flange, please see part# BMWSH1-S. Please verify which differential flange your vehicle has before ordering.

The Driveshaft Shop has been manufacturing heavy duty replacement driveshafts for street and track vehicles around the world for the last thirty years. Every single shaft is dynamically balanced at over 9000 RPMs to ensure unbeatable reliability. With materials such as Carbon Fiber, Aluminum, and Chromoly The Driveshaft Shop has a solution for you no matter what the application.

This part fits the following BMWs:
1995 - 1998 E36 M3

This is a 1-piece Chromoly conversion for the BMW E46 (6-Speed Manual Transmission ONLY, will not fit SMG).

The shaft is 3" x .083" DOM tube with billet aluminum plates to convert the small bolt pattern on the factory transmission to use larger 1310 U-Joint and a 108mm CV to mount to the differential, which will eliminate any possible pinion angle issues. This shaft weighs 25 pounds and since there is no hanger bearing, it will make the car seem more athletic and give it a smoother power transfer.
Unlike other aftermarket shafts for BMW's this shaft features a slider system that will let the shaft move in and out during racing and chassis flex. This shaft is now being balanced on a new 9500RPM balancer to ensure a perfectly balanced shaft. Comes complete with precision machined front and rear conversion plates and all necessary hardware for installation.

Positioned between the transmission and driveshaft, the giubo (or guibo) joint is a flexible rubber coupling designed to connect driveline components. It reduces vibrations while accommodating limited flexibility. Over time, the rubber can deteriorate due to torque stress and heat, leading to hardening and wear. A failing joint is a common source of driveline noise and vibration. Regular maintenance should include inspecting the joint for heat-related cracks or tears in the rubber. Prompt replacement of damaged joints is crucial to prevent further damage, costly repairs, or potential vehicle breakdown.
