This eccentric shaft is a vital component of your BMW's N55 Valvetronic system, responsible for precise control of valve lift. In the N55 engine, the Valvetronic system uses intermediate levers between the camshaft and lifters to adjust valve lift dynamically. These levers are actuated by this eccentric shaft, which is rotated by an electronically controlled motor under the direction of the engine computer.

Eccentric shaft failure is a common issue in N55 engines, often caused by inadequate lubrication due to extended oil change intervals.
