It is easier and often less expensive to replace them preventatively than to have them fail shortly afterward and have to take apart the whole suspension a second time. This front shock tower bearing fits BMW E39 540i M5 and Z8.

Rubber mounts in any position of a vehicle are usually designed with comfort and longevity in mind leaving performance as a sacrifice. This kind of sacrifice here at Turner just won't do, so we did what we do best and designed a solid monoball mount.

Our engineering team first wanted to tackle the issue with wear found on rubber mounts. Due to their combination of steel, rubber, and low mounting location, these mounts are a direct target for deterioration and failure. As they are positioned out in the open and exposed to the elements, bonded steel and rubber components inevitably hold moisture, separating as the steel bearing begins to rust. Our solution was to offer a rebuildable mount with a Teflon lined bearing for increased durability, combined with a blue anodized body and melonite coated bushing sleeves for corrosion resistance.

The performance side of these mounts is primarily found in the articulation allowed by the bearing. Rubber mounts do not allow for proper free damper movement, hindering shock performance. By eliminating the deflection found in factory rubber mounts and allowing full shock articulation, this solid monoball design eliminates slop and maximizes shock efficiency and performance, allowing for more predictable handling on the street or the track - with almost zero added noise, vibration, and harshness.

The strut mounts (or guide support) locate the front strut to the chassis of the car. They are a very durable rubber meant to absorb vibration and impacts from bumps, potholes, etc. There is also a bearing inside that allows the strut shaft to turn independent of the rest of the suspension. Therefore, the front strut mount is a very critical piece on the E36 suspension. These mounts generally last 100,000 miles or more but it would be a good idea to change them with every strut replacement. Alternate part number - 31336779613 .

Replacing your struts and shocks? Don't forget the bushings! The rubber mounts for the shocks will go bad over time, especially if you drive hard or the roads are particularly rough. The shock mounts locate the front struts and rear shocks to the car - providing a quiet and vibration-free buffer between the road and the cabin. Shock mounts and bushings can wear out just like any other rubber part on the car. This leads to more noise and harshness reaching the chassis and may complicate your new suspension install. When installing new shocks, that is the perfect time to also replace the mounts. There is no additional time to install them, no special tools required, and doesn't take any extra time! Made in the USA If you're installing racing rear shocks with a spherical bearing end you will need this adapter mount for the top of the rear shock. Spherical or rod-end bearings are common on race shocks but they are somewhat universal and mounts are not usually included. We designed and engineered these mounts for our E9X M3 and E90 328i IMSA/CTSCC racecars. Our cacing upper shock mount is machined out of aircraft grade aluminum with a tough anodize finish and high grade hardware. Due to the wide variety of spherical bearings and rod-ends found on race shocks, the bushing kit is sold seperately (see chart for bushing sizes).

Part of maintaining the precision and crisp handling of your BMW is with refreshing the shock mounts from time to time. The rubber parts that mount the front struts and rear shocks to the chassis suffer from age and mileage just like any other rubber part on the car. Over time they become weak and sloppy and that leads to poor ride characteristics, alignment issues, poor steering feedback and the associated clunks and other noises.

This set of stock mounts replaces the original worn-out shock mounts, bushings, bearings, bump stops, and pads on your existing suspension. This package replaces the mounts, pads, bump stops, and hardware used in the standard suspension. This kit will only work in a standard, non-lowered suspension because of the travel the bump stops allow. If you're installing new struts and shocks or want to refresh your worn mounts this is the mount package you need. Installing new mounts with new struts and shocks will ensure proper performance and avoid doing the labor twice if a used mount fails soon after. These are all factory BMW or OEM parts so they fit right and perform just like the factory original parts.

Note for 1997-1999 528i, 540i: BMW had a factory recall to replace the front struts and lower spring perches on pre-2000 528i and 540i models. The lower spring perch was redesigned to be stronger and our mount kits cover front struts that have already been replaced under this recall. If yours has not been done we strongly recommend contacting your BMW dealer and having the recall and replacement parts installed. This does not apply to most aftermarket struts, including Bilstein, as their spring perch incorporates the new design.
